Among Aussie drug dealers the most common term given to a police informer is "dog" and anyone who gives up their dealers details to the police is "dogging" on the dealer.
We Aussies use the word dog and dogging the same way Americans use the term rat and ratting out.
But I never really understood why the term dog became Aussie slang to describe a rat, after all as animals dog's are thought of as loyal and dependable. if you keep a dog as a pet it will be loyal to you and have unconditional devotion to be by your side.
What do dog's do like a rat?
Anyone know how the term dog originated in Aussie street slang?
Do people in any other countries use the term dog for a police informer?
New Zealand?? Great Britain??? Ireland??
What's those countries terms for rats??
Don't they say "tout" in Ireland?
