easily it was curiosity at first, I had been around pot smokers all my juvenile life without trying it once. one day I was out back of my friends house talking while he smoked a bowl and sort of all at once my curiosity got the better of me and out of nowhere I asked if I could hit it. he let me and that was that, I started smoking weed with him occasionally and sometimes he would give me pills randomly, I didn't know or care what they were all I knew was they made me feel good. looking back, they were probably just ephedra pills now that I know how to classify the effects I got from them.

then the year after him and I smoked for the first time, he passed away in a car accident, and I think my drug use took off after that. I really developed the "try it all once" mindset and set out to do just that. eventually "try it all once" turned into "try opiates every day!" and that started my version of the most common story on BL :)

curiosity.

it was built up so much by parents and DARE and all that i wanted to see what all the hub-bub was about.

Women!!! its that estrogen trance thats mesmerizing. All my first drug uses have been with females, first time using coke was at a sorority party and this beautiful blonde takes me to her room. Lays on her bed naked and lines up a line of blow on her clevage. Gorgeous gal with beautiful breasts so I couldn't resist and took that line like a tropper and hit it like a stallion ;).

Heroin, this ones sad though, my fiancee had died in Iraq serving the army and I was in pieces. Had a spinal injury myself from millitary service and called my junkie friend. Told him I'd give him 10 Oxy 80's for a fat shot. He came running, of course, and I took that shot. Then I had no frown thanks to golden brown :)

my curisoty, pretty much has morphed itself into an addiction, that kind of runs my life. how disgusting is that? i love to hate it.

I started doing drugs because I finally opened up my mind, not just to drugs but to various outlooks in life. Before then I was wrapped up in my home town's conservative ideology. As I got older I learned to question things and to try to see things in a different light.

Also, I never had an addictive personality so I felt confident that I would be smart and wouldn't develop a bad drug habit (so far so good).

Holy cow, 10 Oxy 80's for 1 shot of H, umm....thats insane!

fucking panic attacks and constant verbal abuse by parents. i was cutting constantly and never sleeping more than a couple minutes a day almost my entire conscious life. one day after my dad called me a "stupid lazy fuck that will never go farther than the streets" i stole 3 of my moms percocet and had a beautiful nod. i continued to try every drug under the sun, on my own, in the cave that is my basement. i didnt even tell my stoner friends that i did drugs for like 3 yrs. and now im a junky.

so mental health issues. anxiety and insatiable insomnia

Curiosity first, then the other answers follow it...they all come hand in hand.

I did it to write music better and play more often. ... and guess what? IT works! (for awhile anyhow)

Never used drugs in the past until I had a career ending knee injury playing football and was prescribed lots of pain killers. I then discovered those pills don't just kill your pain but also make you feel really good as well. But then I just wanted to get high on any drug so I wouldn't have to think about anything.

I was a college football player and football was my life at this time, so getting hurt was a pretty big pill to swallow (or snort).

i was a naive little punk.... if i new what i do now i would of never touched opiates.... i was 16 when a father like figure introduced them to me i could kill that mother fucker

my first drug was a pill an it felt like magic !! and with years it was getting better and better, i have no regrets, i wish pills are better quality nowdays !!

ESPN did a nice size article on NFL players abusing pain pills. The Saints coaches were under investigation for this also. I know its a huge problem in the NFL & college football.

i was always interested in drugs. i remember reading library books about drugs in grade 2 and 3. i destinctly remember asking myself "i wonder what a CNS depressant/stimulant feels like?" kids would ask me questions about drugs and everything. by the time grade 6 and DARE started i was the expert.

Yeah Favre was addicted to pain killers and so was Jason Peters who wrote a book on it. The book was pretty good. I know actually a lot of players who love taking pain pills. One of my good friends broke our school record for power cleans when he was high on loratabs (I was to :)).
