Recently I wondered what a few blers usernamens mean. In some cases it seems rather obvious (which doesn't mean it is in reality;)), and in some cases I'm downright clueless... I think it would be a great idea to make a thread about that. Just explain what you name means and why you chose it!

Humphrey van Weyden is the protagonist of Jack London's novel "The Sea Wolf". He is a literary critic and kind of a aesthete, never had to work hard or struggle with life. Then he is shipwrecked and luckily saved by the "Ghost", a seal-hunting schooner lead by the brutal and cynical captain Wolf Larsen. It turns out that Larsen, despite being quite manerless on the outside, is educated and dedicated to philosophy and literature. The two start to argue abou the meaning of life, and while van Weyden supports an altruist point of view, Larsen only believes in the right of the mighty. While Larsen enjoys the discussion pretty much, van Weyden is disgusted and awed by the brutal manners on board, but gets used to it with time and learns to work hard and care for himself. When the boat picks up another shipwrecked woman, the arrangement between Larsen and van Weyden falls apart and they become enemies...

I was kind of raised in a overprotecting environment and had the crude idea that nothing really bad could happen to me. Then came the point when I realized that my drug use had gone out of control, I didn't have the guts to work out the issues we were facing in our relationship, let alone the problems I had in work life. I had the strong feeling that I had (and still have) to learn how to live responsibly, therefore I identify strongly with van Weyden :)

But I'm on the outside
And I'm looking in
I can see through you
See your true colors
'Cause inside you'reugly
You're ugly like me
I can see through you
See to the real you

Forsaken.

I picked it early on in high school on a whim but, like water conforming to the shape of a glass, my life rapidly grew to reflect my chosen handle.

Maybe it was just an unconscious choice.

Well my name is Chris but my friends used to call me Pete, im a white european (U.K) But i catch the sun very easy and tan very easy and i tan very dark for a person from the U.K so my friends would call me Pa*i Pete, but obviously i was worried that to others it would/could be offensive and be deemed to be racist so i changed the k and became pally (pete)

Japanese clan during Edo period Japan. I used to read about ancient battles a lot when I was younger and Sekigahara was always one of the more intriguing ones to me.

"Also, the games a classic. And it's hilarious to me that it concludes with animals rap battling for bathroom privileges." LOL

pocketUzume is a variation of other screen names, though I am always Uzume. Depending on what level of illegal-ness im dealing with, the name becomes more severe.

"pocket" means hiding, hiding away from sight. But still you can see the outline of me.

On Bluelight im not completely hidden from the public's eye (internet) but just enough.

A teacher gave me that nickname, because I have an "attitude." So he shortened it to Tude, and I liked it.

I chose serotonin because it's my favorite neurotransmitter =D Was (maybe I still am?) a big E-tard.

Great thread! I love the creative usernames here. Sadly, I'm not all that creative - JD are my initials.

It may sound silly, but "Missykins" was a childhood nickname.

I had a hunch about that, Missykins!<3

Herbavore came about because of the way I came to Bluelight. As many of you know, I came here through my son's account at first after he fatally overdosed. He loved a big white rabbit stuffed animal as a child and that rabbit Bun-Bun was cremated with him. He and I just sort of got into rabbits through his fierce loyalty to that stuffed rabbit and whenever I made cards or pictures for him I always drew rabbits. As a young man, he got two real rabbits as pets and one of them is this big white angora mess named Herbert, or Herby. Of course a rabbit is an herbivore, and since Herbie was the source of much humor in our family, that name just popped into my head when I went to make my own account. I don't know why I spelled it with an 'a' though!
