Apologies for going back to the side-issue of the last page (Kate's got her thread-tidying head on anyway if it's too off-topic) but the imminent changes to housing benefit are really gonna fuck a lotta people over methinks. Hard financial times and all that but freezing Housing Benefit and charging council/housing association tennants for being in the "wrong size" house out of their JSA/ESA/whatever?!? Ouch. That's gonna fukkin hurt a lotta people through no fault of their own. It's not like you get much choice of housing - you more or less take the first place you're offered and are grateful for whatever you get. Imo, ime, etc, etc. I'm lucky cos I've only got one bedroom but was purely a throw of the dice - could've just as easily been given a two-bedroom and having to pay extra rent on the "spare" room would have me without a home sharpish. Can't see how these changes can do anything but be a complete nightmare for councils and housing associations trying to find different accomodation for people that already have accomodation. Fukkin nuts
Tangentitally related to the thread too as plenty peeps who are "bad" at drugs are suddenly gonna have to find rent money outta what's always been their drug money (sorry taxpayers but y'all know it's true). There's no way I'd've been responsible enough to budget like that when I had a habit. Am concerned enough as it is that my housing benefit is gonna be paid to me rather than directly to me landlord cos I'm not sure I'm responsible enough to not just see an extra £80/week in my account and fuck up in a big way sooner rather than later
