Your aunt owns a fucking Cockatrice? Does she wear mirrored sunglasses all the time?
You hit with the Cockatrice.
The Wood Elf turn to stone.
f that im a fucking orc shaman! ight i apologize for derailing the thread i diddnt mean to turn this into a this band > that band thing ...
srsly now tho, im really trying hard to think of lyrics with a more creative and picturesque quality than Clutch's. Its like Dr Suess meets Winston Churchill meets Billy Grahm meets Timothy Leary.
Phil Anselmo has some highly intelligible lyrics seething with the wisdom of down-to-earth reality. He is one of the most notorious drug users (addicts) in the music industry, and I blame that for why there isnt a fucking third Down album yet...
Pete Steele (not sure of he is the lyricist but at least the singer) of Type O Negative has some very creative play on the whole heroin chic/emotionless drama style of writing and composition. Its a total mockery of depression, songs like "Everything Dies" make me piss myself when they get all emo. Not the best of the basket or anything i just feel Type O was worth a mention.
How could anyone forget
WHITE ZOMBIE?. Now
IMO post-White-Zombie Rob Zombie is a talentless hack preying on the minds of the underexposed masses and exploiting the fact that 80% of the american population listens to shit music (thats an actual fact man i read it on google!). But White Zombie was one of the best bands out there. Extremely creative with music and even more creative with lyrics. Check the lyrics to a song like "Blur The Technicolor" and read them as the music is being played (imo lyrics lose half their value without the music).
Not sure if anyone mentioned him (them) yet, but Jimi Hendrix has some really whacky stuff. The lyrics to
Are You Experienced? are amongst my favorites to quote.
Acid Bath has some really creative stuff
(Sister I been trippin in your skies... in a technicolored bliss 10 million miles high... you scream, I scream, everybody screams for morphene)
of course with that, just check this entire thread cuz every band in there is gonna have some good lyrical poetry:

i hope i dont recieve any metal-flames but i love manowar's lyrics (eric adams is THE MAN on pipes and on paper). theyre like a great chuck norris movie. always accompanied by a flask of ale or mead.
shit, actually, may as well leave metal out of this. it doesnt get any more fucked up than gore metal. for its creativity alone, the genere is unmatched in all realms of horror.
Glen Danzig, ableit being a bit on the trite side, has some funny lyrics too. I used to run around goin "WELL I TURNED IN, TO A MARTIAN! WHOO OOOH OH!" when i was younger.
oh and gotta throw Tom Araya of Slayer out there (well he doesnt write all the lyrics). It wasnt untill about the early 90s that slayer started putting a tiny bit of intelligent meaning into their lyrics, but during the 80s they have some extreme writing skills. Its a well known fact that slayer is rarely not-drunk. Anytime ive seen them live they performed flawlessly after downing what seemed like an entire bar. But lyrics on
Reign in Blood are rediculous,
no rapper alive or dead can rhyme better/faster than Tom Araya. "Dittohead" (
Divine Intervention) remains amongst my all time favorite punk/metal songs for lyrics, excellent meaning behind the song and the classic slayer ability to rhyme any word int he english language with another meaningful word.
oh and btw - i dug this out of my quote library:
"A drug is neither moral nor immoral--it's a chemical compound. The compound itself is not a menace to society until a human being treats it as if consumption bestowed a temporary license to act like an asshole."
--Frank Zappa
