I'm currently on oxy ir 30mg and hydromorphone 32mg through out the day. I've been developing severe Akathisia. In the past I used to take provigil /modifinil for sleepyness but have been off of that for a week. I've tried Klonpin to stop this but it only helps slightly. Can pain medication cause this? Or am I rapidly metabolizing. I have to dose the hydromorphone carefully throughout the day even at night I take half a hydromorphone twice through out the night to keep from waking up with this hell. It's put me in the ER twice now. I guess if it is provigil how long before this stops? or can becoming sensitive to opiates cause it? It was so bad in the ER again I was gripping my arms and blood was running down them from my fingernails. I just can't beleive slight withdrawl would cause such devistating chemical torture mentally/ physically but i'm at a loss. Any insight would be great.
Thank You.....

try propanolol and B-vitamins, they are both excellent choices to 'cure' akathisia ....

i suspect provigil WD to be the culprit of the akathisia..how long

I have been trying b6 and a mulitvitamin B, I see my Dr. tomorrow and will bring up propanolol. I've also though my dosage of med's is odd. I seem to have a stronger version of break throughs instead of them giving me a higher dose of oxy IR 30mg I have hydromorphone 32mg not sure if this constant up and down could cause this or not? Since I'm wanting to get off pain killers all together maybe it's best i'm on the shorter acting hydromorphone. I know right now cutting down anymore would mean death with this "chemical torture" feeling. I hope it's just the provigil I just wish I knew how long it would last :P

Akathisia (restlessness, restless/sore muscles/limbs etc, twitching, anxiety, etc) can definitely be caused by physical dependence on opioids, narcotic painkillers and some other drugs, when you are not taking enough or your last dose has worn off. It's a hallmark of drug withdrawal. Probably withdrawal symptoms from the drugs you recently stopped taking. Can't guess how long this will last without more info.
