Who plays the guitar here, and how good are you ?

i love the electric violin - bob dylan filled one of his albums with what i presume is electric violin, though it could just be a non electric one placed next to a mic of course, not sure. The album is called "Desire" its the one with "Hurricane" and "one more cup of coffee for the road" - nearly all brialliant tracks. One of his best.

Bob Dylan - Hurricane
Just a good old fashion violin. Best cut from that album imo you will like this hard to find dylan live on YT

There's definitely something cathartic about playing bass. Locking in with the bass drum and just grooving away. Love it. <3

I played bass for a band a few years back. Totally revolutionised the way i play guitar in that it made me like ten times tighter in the space of about 2 weeks. Maybe the most fun i've had in terms of live playing out of everything i done.

I got a Gibson 12 string at 16 and on Dexedrine played all night in the back of my moms Impala. I learned 35 chords and was working on 5 Beatle songs. My fingers were bleeding the next day and I couldn't play for a week. Kept playing with garage bands, got into Tull and picked up the violin and flute. Never became proficient at either but enjoyed them just the same. Two years ago I gave my last guitar to a 10 year old neighbor to learn on, single mom raising grand children, mom doing 3 yrs. for Dr. shopping and the boy had been asking grandma for a guitar. I have a big Casio Keyboard that gives me a shitload of sounds to play with. Playing it 5 yrs. now and at my age any sound is progress. I'm "Jammin."

You can be technically good at guitar and suck at music it is a finicky interest. Writing lyrics and melody are tough the riff and solos come easy imo

100 per cent. Malmsteen, Vai and those quys exist soley within guitarist magazine and uhm crossroads.....

spoken like a rock n roll hero. Almost exactly like Bryan Adams 'got my first real six string, played it till my fingers blead'.

Have you seen that film about John Lennon and the way he picked up the guitar and became brilliant so quickly ? It was probably a bit over exagerated as films are, but some people are just blessed with natural talent for things. Double bass payers used to rip their fingers to shreds on those things. I can well believe it, those things are such hard work.

when im high i often sing and feel like im making up songs as i go along, but i cant fuckin remember any of them afterwards, and as it happens spontaneously i never think to set up a recorder just incase it might actually sound any good played back when sober.

I recorded everything I wrote in the last year with a 3 string guitar. I dropped it and half the headstock fell off.

Yeah and I never listen to 80s virtuoso guitarist music b/c it is terrible. Also they create melodic themes with their guitars most of the time it is all very thought out/ not just jerking off all over the guitar.

I record my self but mostly if you find a melody you like write down the chords or tabulature. Then if the melody is not obvious enough to replicate with the chords and lyrics I have written I figure out the notes to the melody on the high e string and write them down. It works pretty good for me.

Mydrugsbuddy you should get a dictaphone or use your mobile to record your jams. I just press record any time I have an idea. After that I'll listen to it a bunch of times on the train to work or whatever and really quickly the grooves will start to become clearer in my mind. Second recording, then same process all over again so long as I'm feeling it. You may be surprised how quickly you can turn jams into songs.

I must confess though that I still have hours worth of stuff archived away that I haven't got the balls to listen back to right now.

Yea MDB I saw that story a few times, he was driven. And me not so much a R&R hero, Swarm used the word Crossroads, that's the name of the Dex's that we were doing back in the 70's. I would buy them by the hundred and in this case they helped, especially building up the calluses on the fingers. And ColtDan I brought the 12 because it sounded so rich. I had my doubts playing it as I have small hands. I'm 5-11 but they weren't what I thought I needed to play a 12. But hard work an shortcuts, different key, and using a lot of bar chords, anything, well almost anything can be played. Although a lot of my renditions were nothing to write home about. Some stunk, lol. I just read further and MDB your playing for the best reason, because its fun.

thats good going Dan. You can do those up strokes with the plectrum, which i cannot, are havent been able to so far, as they cause me to loose my rhythym. I ocassionally ring out a kind of tral-la-lala traditional acosutic fianle but i cant rely on it always working.. That has whats stopped my progression in its tracks. i could do bits of voodo chile on the bass.

Its like the back hand smash shot at table tennis, a superb unbeatable shot when timed to perfection. Only rarely managed to do those, lost more points trying to do them and fucking them up, than actually getting them in.

My etizolams kicking in now so before i start geting too random and alljiokhj ovhger thte plcaase id bterere sign offf.
