Wow....there are lots of Sydney ravers on this board now aren't there? Most of the DJ's you've all mnetioned are Voodoo and rave DJ's!!! Glad to see you've found bluelight
For a while there there weren't any ravers around here.
My favourite DJ tends to change depending on various sets I hear (a little fickle I know
) but my favourite at the moment is Abel. Why? His amazing versatitlity to play to any crowd and his mixing skills. We've seen him play a stomping hard techno set at Derrick May. Electro house one night at Tweekin. And disco house one night at bassix. Then of course there was his fantastic set at Big Day Out this year. And he's a cool guy!! What mroe could you ask for
Other favourites? Phil Smart. Sugar Ray can pull off some amazing sets and he's technically great but personally I always enjoy Phil Smart's sets better.
Young Jase and Luscious lorna are also ones to see. On their own they play some great sets but when they play back to back at Sounds on Sunday they pull out some very funky grooves (I hate both those terms!!!) which just pull me onto the dancfloor.
Ken Cloud and Simon Caldwell deserve special mentions. Pocket's not a DJ but I always love watching him play. And Nervous just for his amazing energy and the fun he has when he plays. You can't help but smile and have a great time whenever he's behind the decks.
And how could I forget Dave Kirkpatrick. Deep...way deep progressive house mixed to perfection. The man's a legend
He deserves to be the length of time he's been around as well!
Sorry...couldn't pick just one
As for the Phil Smart/Sugar Ray elitist thing....I agree to a certain extent. But they both deserve the position they hold in the Sydney dance scene. People like them and others like Nervous and Abel who put on quality parties and help our scene grow and evolve should be supported. Yes, they play new music in their sets but that's what I love. My absolutely favourite night out in Sydney is Tweekin cause I know I'm going to hear new and different music each and every time I go there. They push the boundries which a lot of people unfortunately don't do very often.
Just my 2 cents worth from a happy Sydney punter. I wish there were more of us
