Who is Jesus?

What about the prophecies that were not fulfilled? Easily the most important of the lot.

Then again, if my theory is true, and that Jesus was a character created by Mark using ancient scripture, there are just some things it was impossible for Jesus' to have supposedly done as it's evident that they weren't.

It's impossible for (imo) the ficticious character masqurading as a real person to Usher in an era of world peace, and end all hatred, oppression, suffering and disease. As it says: "Nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall man learn war anymore." (Isaiah 2:4) as one need only look around and see it's not true.

I do find this passage VERY interesting though:

Zechariah 14 New International Version (NIV)

The Lord Comes and Reigns
14 A day of the Lord is coming, Jerusalem, when your possessions will be plundered and divided up within your very walls.

2 I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem to fight against it; the city will be captured, the houses ransacked, and the women raped. Half of the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be taken from the city. 3 Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations, as he fights on a day of battle. 4 On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, east of Jerusalem, and the Mount of Olives will be split in two from east to west, forming a great valley, with half of the mountain moving north and half moving south. 5 You will flee by my mountain valley, for it will extend to Azel. You will flee as you fled from the earthquake[a] in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. Then the Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones with him.

6 On that day there will be neither sunlight nor cold, frosty darkness. 7 It will be a unique day—a day known only to the Lord—with no distinction between day and night. When evening comes, there will be light.

8 On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it east to the Dead Sea and half of it west to the Mediterranean Sea, in summer and in winter.

9 The Lord will be king over the whole earth. On that day there will be one Lord, and his name the only name.

10 The whole land, from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem, will become like the Arabah. But Jerusalem will be raised up high from the Benjamin Gate to the site of the First Gate, to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses, and will remain in its place. 11 It will be inhabited; never again will it be destroyed. Jerusalem will be secure.

12 This is the plague with which the Lord will strike all the nations that fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will rot while they are still standing on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13 On that day people will be stricken by the Lord with great panic. They will seize each other by the hand and attack one another. 14 Judah too will fight at Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected—great quantities of gold and silver and clothing. 15 A similar plague will strike the horses and mules, the camels and donkeys, and all the animals in those camps.

Given the history of Israel (corridor was made through palestine etc etc) and the constant destabilization of surrounding arab lands.

A friend from work was talking about a book called "The bible code".. Anyone read it?

What about the prophecies that were not fulfilled?

Not all prophecies have been fulfilled yet. Jesus' life and the canonization of the Bible wasn't the end. The end of the age hasn't even come yet. A prophecy of judgement day is, of course, not fulfilled yet.

The only evidence Jesus fulfilled any prophecies is the bible, and the ones in which you cannot say is true without being true are unfulfilled?

Since this discussion is taking a turn I'll go with it.

It was prophesied that people would be offended by Jesus, here we are ~2000 years later and people still get offended.

If you have a moment here are some important scriptures regarding this:

Most versions say "Blessed is he who is not offended by me" or "who takes no offense at me."

And this was written thousands of years ago, yet it's still happening.

Say Jesus came into the world as the light, with truth and judgement, then there will always be those offended with darkness stumbling over the light.

"In Him was life, and the life was the Light of men. The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness did not overcome or comprehend it." John 1:4

When reading the rest of Matthew 24 the story becomes clear.. He says those things because.. well.. they're obvious.

But when he said:

“Then you will be handed over to be persecuted and put to death, and you will be hated by all nations because of me."

He was wrong.. Christians are not hated by all nations. He was assuming his following would go the same was as every other "messiahs".. Which there were a lot of..

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_messiah_claimants (and these are the ones we know about.. there were blatantly hundreds more)

The rest of it is more ego bull in which he does as any good salesman does..

"11and many false prophets will appear and deceive many people. 12Because of the increase of wickedness, the love of most will grow cold, 13but the one who stands firm to the end will be saved"

"23At that time if anyone says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘There he is!’ do not believe it. 24For false messiahs and false prophets will appear and perform great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect. 25See, I have told you ahead of time."

Basically.. trust me and only my.. regardless.

Not yet. Christianity is on the decline in the western world, and Islam is on the horizon. Look at Europe, Islam is on the rise.

I remember seeing an article about a month ago that Muhammad is now the most popular baby name in the UK.

And if you haven't been following the news lately. Christians are being heavily persecuted and put to death in countries such as Iraq and Syria following the new terror group ISIS. There are countries in Africa with Sharia law also putting Christians to death.

Here's one good example of prophecy outside of the Bible that you are looking for, where you can see in modern days that I would say is fulfilled. A false prophet (Muhammad) performing great signs and wonders (conquering a large part of the world and establishing an empire) to deceive many (currently 1.6+ billion Muslims plus the ones since the 6th & 7th century).

Yes Jesus told us to trust Him. He doesn't command us to kill and conquer, or to force people to convert or die. The great commission is spreading the Gospel to all nations with peace, and He says if they don't accept your peace, let it return to you and to shake the dust off your feet. For what profit is it for one to gain the whole world and lose his soul? Even in the face of death, he who wishes to save his earthly life by denying Christ will lose his eternal life, and he who loses his earthly life for Christ's sake will save his eternal life. Jesus is the way the truth and the life. :)

There have been and will be thousands of false prophets and during the supposed time of Jesus there were many..

It was an educated guess.

I could make a few educated guesses right now which are bound to come true, in one form or another, eventually.

All religions are on the decline because of less poverty and more education (Can't remember the study name).. there is no sign of Christianity being hated by all nations, though.. Name one nation that hates it's followers now.

There are no countries that are putting Christians to death, either.. name one.
