Who is Jesus?

I was never a chill PD member :p

I was adding to the discussion within the OP questions asked in the OP.. Who do i think Jesus was / is. I answered with who I think he was and why.. One of the suggestions within the OP was "A fictional character?"..

But I do apologise for my post to Ninae.. *Deleted*

PM sent MDAO.

And my common theme of posts are in line with the common theme of threads.. Christianity / Jesus.

In rickolasnice's defense, isn't this an incredibly open question asking us to digress and extrapolate about the topic proposed? Given the character in question, of course these ponderings are going to be somewhat questionable at times.

As far as I know the only evidence of Jesus comes from the writings of a historian called Josephus written a few decades after Jesus supposedly died. And even that is only a couple of sentences and isn't historically authenticated.

I can believe that there was a guy called Jesus that existed who was maybe a charismatic preacher. But as for performing miracles and being the son of God, there is no evidence for that and it would be very difficult to prove.

The passage about Jesus (THE Jesus) is widely accepted to being added in by someone other than Josephus.

What do you believe about Jesus?

Was he a revolutionist? An inspirational teacher with a profound message? A man leading a movement of freedom? Some great philosopher of his time? One of the prophets? A highly spiritual & enlightened individual? Simply a fictional character who never existed? Son of the living God, God incarnate?

Regardless of what we believe about Jesus, his name and story has significantly influenced the course of history, creating one of the most substantial impacts on people, cultures and societies from the past ~2000 years to this present day.

So I ask you, who do you say Jesus is? And why do you believe the way you do?

That was a general Gnostic Christian view. I go a bit deeper in in this link.

To believe Jesus was real, you would have to see god as one who would needlessly have his son killed.

Is that the kind of vile God you follow?

I believe Jesus is the allegorical representation of the unlimited potential within each and every one of us.
I believe the consciousness of each being is like a puzzle piece to a macrocosmical Big Picture.
That infinite, composite bubble of consciousness is the source of our souls and gives us that base potential. Essentially, it is what I believe to be God, not Yahweh or El or Jehovah or any other beardy men.
To be a son of God is to come from him. We are all sons of God. Therefore, we can all attain enlightenment and spiritual evolution. We all have that seed in us that with the warm rays of positivity, can grow infinitely up the ladder of spiritual evolution.
In short, I believe Jesus is each and every one of us and we all can attain Nirvana or Christ...

I'm not clairvoyant so I don't really get any visuals, but I've experienced Jesus as a healing force, and someone I can communicate with telepathically.

He always gets the last word.

Almost pure Gnostic Christian thinking.

I do not agree with this "unlimited potential" part of what you said.

Unfortunately, or fortunately, depending on your mind set, it may be good that we do not have unlimited potential.

We might act like the genocidal son murdering God of the O.T. and be just as immoral.

No, you don't. Many people who don't even believe in God believe he was real person. Also, nearly 1.6 billion people, muslims, believe Jesus was a prophet.

The Quran mentions Jesus on every other page.

It says "The Prophet born of the Virgin in Bethlehem who the Jews persucated" or something like that.

It's half okay with Jesus, I think he travelled and got inspiration from that area too.

I don't care how many people are stupid.

To believe in bible God is to believe in a genocidal son murdering prick of a God who had his son needlessly murdered.

Of all the virgin births, why should we see the Christian one as any better than the others?

A better question would be "Why do you call yourself Gnostic Bishop when you have so much resentment towards Christianity?"

What does one have to do with the other?

After seeing those links, do you not hold any resentment or do you not care about the harm religions do?

It's still a form of Christianity so you're confusing people. Most people aren't as obsessed with religion as you. At least I have respect for the parts of Christianity which are good.

Well, I can see why you have had to return so often. You are not learning anything of morals and call evil good.

“The God of the Old Testamentis arguably the most unpleasant character in all fiction: jealous and proud ofit; a petty, unjust, unforgiving control-freak; a vindictive, bloodthirstyethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciouslymalevolent bully.”

Now you're starting to get on my nerves. I've returned so often as a self-sacrifice.

Did you even really read the original post? I didn't mention the Bible at all or pitch an argument that Jesus is God's son. I didn't mention Christianity. I said before on this thread, my intent wasn't to create a discussion if God exists or not, and didn't ask. I simply want input on what people believe about Jesus and why. You could answer the question without coming in only to attack. Why don't you tell me who you believe he is and not who you believe he isn't.

Take your deep hatred for Christianity elsewhere.
