Obviously the main contenders are quite apparent for Best Actor/Actress and Best Supporting Actor/Actress and have since been verified since the nominees have been announced. There's a lot of fantastic performances by all, and I think it's definitely going to be a close year.

Oscar Nominees 2013

Since I haven't seen Lincoln yet, I can't make a fair assessment towards Lewis' performance but I have heard that's outstanding.

Also, I've never been a huge fan of Anne Hathaway, but her performance in Les Mis (despite the fact I found the movie a bit long and boring at times) was absolutely outstanding. If you haven't seen it yet, the scene has finally been released to public and can be found here on YouTube.

Regarding Django: Unchained, I loved the movie, especially as a huge Tarantino fan. But I'm really only expecting a Best Screenplay win.

So, with that, what's your opinion?

Jamie Foxx did brilliantly in Django.
Daniel Day Lewis did a great job in Lincoln for the first half hour I watched. The movie itself was boring so I turned it off, his performance that I did see was well done.
Yet to see Les Mis.

I absolutely loved Beasts of the Southern Wild. Quvenzhané Wallis was outstanding, especially considering her lack of experience in film.

I still need to see Life of Pi though.

"Skyfall" from Skyfall
Music and Lyric by Adele Adkins and Paul Epworth

Finally, a Bond opening track that doesnt blow dick.

Haven't seen a single one of those movies yet, so I guess I can't make an accurate opinion on much of anything there. I would give Best Visual Effects to Prometheus for sure though.

Oscars have turned into a giant circle jerk.

So who deserves an Oscar? Anyone I guess.

you are obviously forgetting about 'live and let die'

alasdair

Even though it wasn't that good, Jack White did the last one which automatically makes it not blow dick.

In recent memory. I liked the Garbage one. Casino Royale was awkwardly Chris Cornell.

the garbage one is great. the skyfall track just sounds like they are totally filled with regret at not getting an amy winehouse bond song. imagine how boss that would be. i haven't seen any of the movies or anything, besides Bond.

Only thing Im sure of is that DDL should win and Jessica Chastain most definitely should not.

bay and shyamalan deserve oscars for not making anything.

Bay is too busy making Transformers 4 and Shamalamadingdong is releasing After Earth pretty soon as well as making a TV show called Wayward Pines.

They're both continuing to be awful, they just happened to miss the 2012 window.

Hey I really enjoyed Lincoln with Daniel Day Lewis. But I am a history nut and my husband and I enjoyed ripping the film apart on historical accuracy, and how convenient the release date was around Election Day. Things that make you go hmmm... But overall it was a pretty decent film. But I am a sucker for historical dramas and love all the costumes, dresses and hairstyles.

I don't get the big reaction on the James Bond film Skyfall. I pretty much yawned through it all. Still preferred Live and Let Die and Duran Duran's "A View to a Kill'' as far as Bond tunes are concerned. I think I have a 45 record of that last one around here somewhere... oops, showing my age!

i concur. she was an absolute joy to watch

but still not sure if I'd say it was a great film, bit torn

am I the only one who feels like these Oscar nominees are pretty weak this year? Django was a lot worse than Kill Bill which I would give maybe like a 7/10, and its like the talk of the Oscars? Yeah Hollywood is headed in the right direction

Bahaaha, oh, they'll be back.

Typically, I pay the Oscars little to no mind, being it's such a vanguard of the establishment, and a stark interference on the way movies are made and released. Given that, let me slightly contradict everything I just said when I say I wish Sam Jackson was nominated for his role in Django, as I'm sure I'd just relish his acceptance speech.
