I decided to do my first dmt extract from Equate Tussin DM, active ingredients read as follows:
(in each 5ml tsp)
Dextromethorphan HBr, USP 10mg
Guaifenesin, USP 100 mg
I used the simplified acid/base extract technique, using:
100ml of Tussin DM
100ml of Ammonia
20ml of Naptha.
While pouring tussin dm, then ammonia then shaking, then pouring naptha then shaking again, I got a lot of bubbly foam which settled down after a couple of minutes. The technique says the colored dm, and ammonia would remain at the bottom, and naptha layer with dxm extract would remain at the top in a "clear" layer separated from the ammonia by the naptha. The layer isn't clear though, it's a milky white color, with the same visual ml of the naptha poured in the beginning.
What I want to know is if that milky white layer is normal or the "clear" layer talked about in the simplified acid/base tek for dxm before pouring into a ziplock to drain? Do I need more of an ingredient to shake again? Did I mess up a step? Am I on the right path?
Picture included, milky substance when drained still smells like ammonia. The top part are just foam/bubbles coming down. Middle layer is milky substance. Bottom is tussin/ammonia.

Edit: Edited references. Wasn't sure of the format around here, only from like threads from 2008 lol.
