Does anyone know which states are using Prescription Drug Monitoring Programs? I have been diagnosed with Hypersomnia, but my doctor does not want to prescribe the usual medications to me because I was once dependent on opioids, and I used Suboxone to get off them. The drugs usually prescribed to someone for hypersomnia are Ritalin, Adderall, and other stimulants that are also used by people with narcolepsy and ADHD.

So naturally there is a record of my opioid use as well as recent sub use on my state's Drug Monitoring Program. I am sleeping at least 10 hours at night, but usually more like 11 - 13, and I have no energy during the day. I fall asleep several times a day even after sleeping way too much at night. Nothing helps. No amount of caffeine. No energy drinks. Nothing! I fear I will be wasting a lot of time visiting doctor after doctor who will tell me the same thing. That they will not prescribe a stimulant such as Ritalin or another drug used to treat hypersomnia such as MODAFINIL due to my drug abuse history. Maybe my current doctor is being way too cautious and most doctors would not turn me away for the help I need, but maybe most upstanding doctors will also refuse to treat me if they know my history. And I would not know where to begin to find a shady doctor! lol

I have been suffering from this for months now, ever since a bad head injury, and it just gets worse and worse. I cannot get anything done, and I am literally sleeping my life away. I am desperate enough to travel to another state, if need be, at least one time, to get help for this. I am not wealthy enough to do this every month, but if I can at least get a month's supply, maybe another local doctor will accept it as a necessary drug for me since it's already been prescribed to me previously, and continue to write the script for me monthly. I don't know what else to do, but I'd need to know where to even start if I'm going to try this method of obtaining the medicine I need for this horrible condition. Please help if you can!

there's the internet man. I don't think we're allowed to tell you this kind of information.

I'm not a doctor, but have you seen a neurologist for your head injury? That could be a contributing factor in your sleep quality and lethargy during the day. Many states do have prescription monitoring programs in place but it's hard to say if that would prevent you from getting a new prescription for meds you've never been prescribed before. It's up to the doctor, and if you're not getting the help you need, find a different one. You shouldn't have to go to another state to get proper treatment. I have to close this, pm if you have any questions.
