This is a brief description of my first two experiences with San Pedro, which occurred about two months apart. Both times, fresh SP cuttings about 2.5 feet in length were used. Preparation was simple: First, the spine nodes were snipped off, using wire clips. The next step was to cut the cactus lengthwise eleven times - along the tops and bottoms of the ridges, cutting down to the hard layer. This made the long sections easy to pull apart. Next
the thin, waxy 'epidermal' outer layer which helps protect the cactus from the elements was removed using forceps; this waxy layer has been associated with nausea. It was tedious and time-consuming work getting rid of that waxy layer, but probably worth it.
Consumption: the
green outer layer which is said to contain most of the alkaloids was then eaten raw, along with most of the soft pulp underneath. Taste was not a problem - bitter/sour, after the first few bites it tasted OK. Ate the cactus slowly and leisurely, on a fairly empty stomach, to avoid bloating. Took about 45 minutes to eat the entire thing. Effects came on much more quickly than expected - by the time all cactus material was consumed, strong body effects had already started. Both sessions were timed so as to finish eating the cactus around twilight. Both experiences lasted most of the night, with powerful visuals, and were very pleasant spiritual experiences! Absolutely no nausea or queasiness was felt during either of the sessions.
This is only the beginning. Such a complex and powerful experience will take many more sessions to evaluate

San Pedro has been a very pleasant surprise! Stripping the spines and waxy layer, then simply eating it raw, seems the best way for me.
