Stimulants Which Med for Comedown? (Theories of Drug Action)

I have 300 mg XR and 400 mg XR tablets of Seroquel (Quetiapine Fumarate), as well as 10 mg tablets of Abilify (Aripiprazole). Which would be better for a comedown? It is important to note that Aripiprazole's affinity for 5-HT2A is 8.7, and Seroquel's affinity for that receptor is 31, 5-HT2A antagonism increases dopamine in the prefrontal cortex and so does amphetamine, therefore it might be possible that too much dopamine in the prefrontal cortex could result in adverse effects. I've had vivid hallucinations and very odd thoughts from what I believed to be too much prefrontal dopamine.

Seroquel also has lower affinity for D2 (770) than Aripiprazole (0.66).

Aripiprazole is also a partial agonist which may stimulate in the absence of dopamine, this absence could occur after a comedown, however it may have a different effect depending on the time that you take it (e.g., a time where you can still feel a very slight rush of dopamine, or a time where you are almost certain you have depleted all your dopamine). Also, does dopamine actually deplete or is it just a homeostatic response for the reuptake pumps to enhance themselves once the amphetamine is unbound? Or is it something else?

I'm so confused and I want to know which would be better, without experimenting and fucking up my sleep and brain.

If anyone has any theories, please comment.

Sorry just checking - have you ever taken either of them?

5_HT2A your knowledge of the pharmacology involved is far greater than mine but based on personal experience a small dose of Seroquel, say 50mg to 75mg, is all it takes to deal with amphetamine-type stimulant comedown. Higher dosage seem to trigger adverse effects such as jitters and even akathisia attacks. But dosage I mentioned takes you down easy, can even put you to sleep after an hour or so.

When I use to dabble with amphetamine type compounds, I would take benzodiazepines to comedown with. They calmed my brain to the point where I could sleep. Wouldn't It be a lot better to calm that center of your brain down instead of speeding yourself back up?

I find that sleep is the best comedown med ever when it comes to amphetamines. Unless you take a huge XR dose at 12pm and try to go to bed at 9pm, you won't need anything other than falling into your bed and passing out. If you're not tired just wait...it will come lol.

all of those are CACA for stim comedowns...Your gonna retard your dopamine, and nullify future amphetamine doses. I should Know, I did cocaine while on several antipsychotics for like 6 months

If you are taking stims on the REGULAR. DO NOT USE ANTIPSYCHOTICS FOR SLEEP. Unless you start hearing voices and get paranoid as fuck

It would be best to abstain from amphetamines from now on due to this

All I know is Seroquel is an Atypical, and prescribed often more for sleep vs Abilify. Abilify can cause insomnia for some. I've been on both, taken them individually and also simultaneously. When I used amphetamines.... long acting cns meds were the best, but seroquel in low doses also proved to be helpful.

Basically, the standard antipschotics didn't work for me and caused more hallucinations, then any atypicals. Yet, that's just IME. :)

Lyrica man. Pregabalin works incredibly well for stimulant comedowns. It is so smooth. I'll put it this way, it made propylhexedrine tolerable.

^yah lyrica i suppose, or a combo of an anxiolytic and a hypnotic benzo or Z--drug or soma/meprobamate, or barbs, or lludes if u can get em, they would all help you relax and sleep, sleeping through the come-down is the best ;)...

maybe opiates, but thats a very dangerous slippery slope (as are the other CNS depressants i mentioned for that matter).... , and they might relax you, but prob won't help for sleep

Weed, hash or a good 'noid like ab-funica might help some pople relax, but def isn't a sure bet

Benzos or barbs +booze, very very dangerous combo, but good knock out combo, however only do if you're very sure about your tolerance and have experince with these... otherwise you're heading for possible CNS depression whilst sleeping, and then death.... :|

Abilify won't help much for the come-down IME, but low dose seroquel should knock you out, if you don't have a tolerance, like 50mg... just don't add more seroquel or it will have the opposite effect IMO

Probably best and safest to take less amps and not be confronted with the torturous, sometimes psychotic come-downs....

My vote is Quetiapine. Whenever I became overstimulated or merely wanted to go to sleep after using a lot of methamphetamines, Quetiapine (The INSTANT RELEASE version, the Quetiapine Fumarate / XR version is NOT the one you want for this purpose.)

Works like a charm.

Lyrica hands down works!
Although, it seems he doesn't have this drug handy and needs info on the 2 options available. Seroquel, instant relief is absolutely best, ime, controlled is bunk, and lasts too long through the morning, and might not be prescribed more for therapeutic purposes verses sleep.

Seroquel sometimes can cause RLS though, so I wouldn't take a large dose at once. :)

This. I DEPEND on clonazepam to live. And I absolutely, unequivocally, LOVE it's half life. If I take a dose in the morning/early afternoon one day... I will still be feeling it well into the evening of the next day.

I have never heard of Abilify having much effect in the manner in which you are seeking. Seroquel has been prescribed for sleep as well as being an atypical antipsychotic. My vote is for the Seroquel also.
