Benzos Which is the "clearest" and least sedating benzo?

Don't have much experience with clonazepam but I would say lorazepam hands down, with diazepam being the runner up. Of course alprazolam is going to be the best in more severe panic attack type situations but for regular dosing I would definitely recommend a couple of milligrams of lorazepam. I did seem to have physical dependency problems after only a month on 2mg of lorazepam per day, however, which I did not experience taking much higher doses of alprazolam and diazepam.

1-2 months of 2mg lorazepam a day will obviously lead to dependency, as will consistent dosing of any benzodiazepine, there aren't non-addicting ones, or even less-addicting, this is all subjectively speaking anyway, so YMMV.

for purely anxiolytics purposes alprazolam still works best for me, with the short acting-hypnotics like midazolam, triazolam and brotizolam being close seconds, and more 'classical' benzos like diazepam, clorazepate and lorazepam working good too.

I'm very surprised no one said etizolam, I thought it was going to be the majority's choice. I guess the fact that it's not a prescribed med has a lot to do wih it. Is that true? I found it remarkably clear; it always felt like it was in the backround- sometimes I would forget I had take. Anything!

P.S. sorry to hijack ( well not Really ^.^)- I'm wonder what's the clearest and least depressing benzo ( want to remain as "up" as possible during bupe detox) I read a study comparing 5-ht antagonism ( don't quote me on that, might have not been quite antagonism), but the results were librium was the most "depressing", a few other benzos were medium "depressing", and oxazepam was the least so. Oxazepam sounds like a real winner!

Etizolam is prescribed, just not in the United States. I've never tried it, really have no desire to either, what with the better benzodiazepines on the market.

i forgot all about oxazepam, yes, it is very good in this regard, and is fairly similar to clorazepate in overall feel/dosage. i think i remember that clorazepate acts mostly as a prodrug. both drugs come in 50mg dosages around these parts, and from subjective experience clorazepate is about twice as potent.
both are very good as pure anxiolytics, and mediocre to bad recreational benzos.

Desired effect is not therapeutic effect.

Well the desired effect was sleep, I didn't take it to get high, benzos don't really do that for anyone tolerant to their effects. I was prescribed 90mgs along with clonazepam..

Today was my first day of Clorazepate therapy and I'm finding it to be quite nice. No anxiety, with only a small amount of sedation. I feel very clear headed, and I actually got a nice mood lift as well. I wouldn't say it's euphoria, but I definitely feel content and functional though.

I really enjoy bromazepam, but it can be accompanied by some horrible side effects. But its a very good anxiolytic benzo to me and at low doses doesn't provide too much sedation. Although in higher doses it has muscle relaxing properties which are great when taking it recreationally.

But like I said people have experienced some rather bad side effects including jaundice. http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bromazepam#section_2

For what its worth at this late point, i found benzo not helpful for sleep, even xanax and the max dosages and above, worked great for my anxiety and ptsd, but like alcahol in smaller doses i lost interest in sleep and would stay up later doing stuff.

What worked, zolpidem, like a champ, and entertains you on your way out as a bonus, but resulted in massive tolerance, recreational usage, dangerous sleep walk actions like driving, major fun but not good with alcahol, etc. The best way to fall asleep for sure.

I have settled on Seroquel, no tolerance, no addiction, no recreational value, meaning ill go to sleep, and the sedative part is hystamine based meaning drowsiness and a natural sleep, dont be fooled, it will knock you out, when all else fails, not to be compared to otc anti hystamines. Plus it has the added benefit of doubling as the best stim comedown killer ever

Plus, they just released the generics so its cheap now as well

Edit, I saw anxiety factors mentioned as well, i have to say seroquel is much valued in my anxiety, ptsd arsenal, its a great last resort, a gaurentee if you will to deal with any situation, even the worst panic attack or bad ptsd episode, nothing working, dont want to deal with it, seroquel will end your situation, not gracefully, but brutally, sleep gaurenteed, tested in the middle of the worst type of mental states. The piece of mind it provides a sufferer simply with the knowlege its there if needed, is worth it.

Clonazepam was recommended by my doctor so I wouldn't be in lala land for my presentations.

I've taken upwards of 1.5mg and could still function normally, although I was very relaxed. - Valium seems a bit too sedating for me.

I think a low dose of alprazolam missed with a duo of coffee really does the trick. The thing to be careful is just to not over do it with Xanax. I feel like a lot of people think that just because they get a 2mg bar of Xanax that they need to take the whole thing to feel any effects. This is simply not true. Of your naive to benzo's, I would start off at .25mg of alprazolam, .5mg MAX. Anymore and you'll be knocked on your ass.

^Exactly, I get the 2mg bars, but when I take it, I dose myself 0.5mg at a time. Each bar is scored to be able to divide four doses.

Mods,

What causes more mental distortion Xanax or Clonazepam? - I might ask my doctor to switch because of the shorter half-life of Xanax.

That's pretty subjective, so it's hard to answer, but I personally am not a fan of clonazepam, and have already cast my vote in this thread towards alprazolam on the first page, let me find my post...

I think Temazepam is the clearest for me aside from my prescribed Valium. I know that it is often prescribed for sleep, but I usually take 15mg which takes care of my anxiety without the sedation.

Very interesting! Yeah, I'd agree with the temazepam.

I think that alprazolam is the best option, it's super potent and yeah it may not last the longest but if you keep your dosing low to begin with, a redose wouldn't be the end of the world. I would agree, keep your tolerance sub-milligram ergicmergic, like 0.25mg/day, since you're not taking much diazepam currently, I can't imagine your tolerance to benzodiazepines being substantial.

^+1. Extremely subjective, but of the common four (in the US) I'd say lorazepam. The effects from a dose of 1mg or less are so subtle it's easy to forget you've even taken a benzo at all. Second would be very low-dose xanax, but even then it feels like a tranquilizer, which it of course is.

This is an overview over some benzodiazepines in german:

Property translation:
angstlosend [red] = anxiolytic
sedativ [yellow] = sedative
muskelrelaxierend [blue] = muscle relaxant
antikonvulsiv [green] = anticonvulsive

I only tried tetrazepam, diazepam and lorazepam yet and would say the searched one is lorazepam.
But the table says alprazolam...

I hope i could help.:)
