Is it better to detox one first? I have taken Percocet 15mg a day for a year and taken Xanax .5mg for about a month so should I detox one before the other. Is it better to taper first.

Do you know if you’re susceptible to seizures? If so, you should definitely discuss this with a dr first as benzo WD does cause dangerous seizures in a small amount of people. I think opioids in general might lower the seizure threshold making you more susceptible (as well as opiate WDs). The dr will give you meds to help prevent these. If you’re not sure, I’d consider seeing a dr. If you do experience a seizure while in WD, you should get checked out at the ER if possible.

I think it’s best to detox from one first then the other. If I were in your situation, I’d start with the Xanax first since you’ve been using it 4 weeks so you may have no WDs or mild WDs. You’re right on the cusp, so I hope this is what happens.

Do you only take the Xanax once per day or do you take .25 mgs twice daily? My mom took Xanax once daily for a few years and says she had no WDs upon cessation. Since the duration of effects is shorter (I think ~5-10 hours?) my belief is some people take it only once per day without getting addicted. Let’s hope this is your situation too!! I’ve seen people have difficulty after several years of using once per day too. Benzo WD is so unique to each person. Is it your own script? If not, are you certain they’re pharmaceutical quality (if not 100%, I strongly urge you to test them just to make sure you know exactly what you’re withdrawing from as there are so many pressed Xanax pills now…in the US anyway). Benzo WDs can have elicit some very strange symptoms ranging from mild to severe. I’m currently in the first few days of klonopin withdrawal after 3 months of daily use. In addition to expected symptoms, my bones (especially spine) hurt as well as my skin oddly. My stomach is also bloated and painful. I have been on it for many many years then quit twice before though. If you want more info, there’s also a benzo recovery Reddit sub and site like benzo buddies that are great resources. I haven’t searched here, but obviously you know blue light is also an excellent resource. Benzo WDs can last a while too. For example, acute klonopin WDs start 24-48 hours after last use then peak after 7 days after and some symptoms can last for almost a year. Again, xanax schedule is likely different but also let’s hope yours is mild.

If you don’t feel many symptoms from the Xanax after 2 weeks Tia month, I’d say you are probably ready to start the percuset WDs. Have you experienced those before?
