Which do you prefer: Hydrocodone or Oxycodone?

^i agree

I believe people just think its better because its more potent, and the hype surrounding oxycontin. I used to even have an oxy script after my surgery and i later switched to norco because hydro killed pain better than oxy, i think the highs are the exact except for hydro i can nod off way easier, but i also have to take 10mg more than i would of hydro than oxy.

If you like sedating opiates that make you nod off, i dont know how you can diss good old hydrocodone. Hell i even think hydromorphone compares to hydrocodone, and hydromorphone is PURE bliss.

Like lacey K said, to each their own....

PS: Norco is the only hydro i would abuse, i wouldnt be an abuser of hydrocodone if it werent for Norco, i dont know whatd id do, thank god for norcs

I hate to break it to you emjay (edit and OCjunky apparently), but people like oxy's because they make you feel fucking amazing. I liked them before I realized there was any hype around them, it's definitely the feeling.

I've nodded once off of hydrocodone and it was real nice, but I'd take oxy over hydro 99/100 times. The oxy feeling more 'speedy' is this slight energy boost I get for about 30 minutes, but after that oxy feels quite sedating. Start smoking/vaping weed and it's not even hard to nod out on oxy.

Ah, I just stick with good ole hero.

^Your right, it does make you feel amazing, but so does hydro. I think they each are distinguishable in their own ways but for me, i choose a drug that makes me not wanna move, hence hydrocodone. Hydro also makes my face go completely numb unlike with oxy.

I think once you do oxy oxy oxy, youll miss the feeling of hydro. IMO something is missing when i used to do oxy, it was like an empty feeling in the back of my head

Im an opiate FREAK, i would obviously choose a drug that feels better than the other, but i just think people like different feelings, so its not really possible to say which one is more enjoyable.

speaking from a 24 year old OC addict of 3 years after 5 detox/rehabs and now a 230mg a day methadone user I say STAY THE FUCK AWAY FROM OXYCODONE If you like hydro then good for you just dont do em too much But OC's are in a whole different league I was spending $200+ daily to support my OC habit Those things have ruined mine along with about 30 people I know lives. If you've never done OC's please please take my advice and steer very clear

I've done oxy's maybe 100 different times, hydrocodone's maybe about 15. The first time I tried hydrocodone I was in awe because it just seemed to blow oxy out of the water. Oxy, while damn good at what it does, just feels kind of 1-dimensional. Hydrocodone feels different, maybe weaker - but it just seemed to do MORE. Of course, out of the Rx opiates I listed above (morphine, hydrocodone, oxycodone, hydromorphone), hydromorphone has been my favorite hands down.

They both are very good opiates, so its not like you can bash one and like the other, they both are very nice. Its just i think hydrocodone is more sedating, thus i like it more, thats all.

I do think oxy is SHIT for killing severe pain, i had more luck with hydro. IMO

Used without crushing, orally, for chronic pain sufferers there is a less than 10% risk of addiction with oxycontin or virtually any other opiate.

As someone with severe, possibly life-long chronic pain who has suffered through hell for years because docs are afraid to prescribe drugs whose names appear frequently in the media (leading to long-acting morphines and hydrocodone being the only options that any significant number of doctors are even remotely willing to consider....and that's among the absolute best most compassionate on the planet)....I get pretty frustrated when people who have approached a prescription medication designed for use by people in chronic pain, and had problems with it....continue to approach them in recovery like they are exactly what the prohibitionists and ignorant politicians think they are. "Drugs" with no redeeming value.

Oxycontin has tremendous redeeming value. I would almost certainly experience a very substantial improvement in quality of life if my doctor were willing to prescribe me oxycontin instead of MScontin. I don't want to be high, I just want to be able to function as much as possible to help my wife and our little baby. I want to be able to be a husband and father just not for them, but for our future children as well. So I need to be able to get the best possible medications for my situation regardless of the politics. If I can get better relief at a similar cost with a better side effect profile and less disturbing dreams.....then that's what should be happening, but it isn't. Because even people who ought to, and probably do, know better....aren't giving us chronic pain sufferers enough credit. And frankly, you're not giving the opiates enough credit.

Obviously they can be very problematic for people buying them on the black market, shooting them up or even just abusing them however. But the real issue there is the abuse, not the substance.

I'm sorry if it seems like I'm jumping all over you, man, when obviously you have issues you're working out and I don't mean to be an ass about this. It's just that after all that I have been through and continue to struggle with, I can't leave this kind of issue alone. I have nothing but respect and compassion for people with addiction problems. But I think that addicts in particular, who should be among the best educated in drug sciences and harm reduction, should know that chronic pain is massively under-treated and it's only getting (MUCH!) worse because of the recent diversion "epidemic" that the press loves to babble on about with very little real knowledge of what all the factors are.

Please, for all of those of us whose "addiction" is forced on us by chronic pain, keep our situations in mind when you comment on these issues! Your problems are no less valid than my own but there's a lot more to the story of opiates than just addiction and the 'recreational' appeal of the effects!

As someone who has dealt with severe chronic groin pain (and flare ups of extreme full-body pain as well), having tried most of the various options out there I've found that oxy tends to give me a better ratio of relief to undesirable effects. I tend to need lower doses and feel clearer, more awake and more productive on oxy than hydro. But everyone is different and I certainly do not have a typical metabolism. I react atypically to quite a few medications and substances.

hah wierd, i just posted this in another thread on here...
i was using up to 400mg plus of oxy crushed to get high, and i still, would always choose HYDRO over oxy.

and it wasnt because i used hydro first with no tolerance.

its just more sedating overall and sooooo much fuzzier.....oxy is great, trust me i wouldnt have spent/used that much if it wasnt, but i just prefer hydrocodone more. it suits my opiate crave better....hence the crazy oxy doses "chasing a nod".

I've been prescribed both, and am currently on a mild daily dose of oxycodone for pain. I prefer the oxycodone. It's a much better painkiller. I've had hydrocodone in every make/model/legal compound and I'd say for me oxycodone is much much much more effective. 15mg of hydrocodone wouldn't even take care of a hang nail (this is pre-tolerance, mind you), where as 15mg of oxycodone would eliminate all pain, give me a nice little warm buzz, and still leave me 100% fully functional. When I had to increase my hydro dosage, I became sick quite a few times. I've never had an adverse reaction to oxycodone, even on doses double that of which would make me sick with hydro . Hope I helped =)

edit- not to mention that now, after being prescribed oxycodone for as long as I have, hydro does nothing for me. I was switched "back" to vicoprofren 7.5/200 to see if it would be better (as I was taking ibuprofren on top of the oxycodone, and my insurance wouldn't cover that combunox or whatever the hell that oxy/ibu combo is called) and in doses upwards of 22.5 mg at a time there was no pain relief at all! It was like my previous oxycodone useage kinda rendered hydrocodone useless!

i think oxy is definately better than hydro but not by that much. i find both drugs to be very stimulating and euphoric and they are pretty close in strength. but being able to snort 20, 40, or 80mg OC's for a better faster rush without all the tylenol is what makes oxycodone the clear cut winner. Perhaps if a 100mg "Hydrocontin" was released then maybe it would be a tougher call

dont snort vicodin.the tylenol will tear up yer mucus membraneseseses........

like i said i would do a cold water extraction with the vocodin if i had enough and they costed very little

and i hate oxy now, wish they would make a "hydroCONTIN" haha ....120mg damn that would be awesome to me haha

Ive only tried Hydro...So I have no clue whats the best.
The only downside of hydrocodone is that it really doesnt last long (oraly ) prob 3-4 hours.

the time you take it , its finished ) =/

huh?
wierd, ive alwas found oxy to be the shorter acting of the two....hydro lasts 5 hours while oxy lasts 4. atleast for me.....

....I would NEVER go back to hydro.

Yall can HAVE it. lol. sheeeeeit.

Even with no tolerance (no opiates for 6 months for example) i can take 6 Vicodin 7.5's and barely feel more than tired, itchy as fuck, and have a headache. No love lost there.

Interesting. All the different opinions and reasons foreach. I have never tried hydro because they don't prescribe it much in Canada, at least in my experience. Codeine and then Oxycodone. I think there are some cough syrups here that contain it that may be pretty good. Usually only used in Canada as a cough supressant by Canadian docs.

However, it does seem like it might be a worthwhile one to check out one day perhaps.%)

Save them both for yourselves, ugh.

I've never been able to achieve any type of high/low whatever from hydro even when getting into crossing the line of safety type doses. IMO that stuff is total crap.

As for oxy, yeah it's great. All nice and fuzzy and noddish. Then next thing you know your doing four or more 80mg pills a day, not cleaning your house, constantly itching, and don't forget the nausea. Yeah sure, I'll take the all the negative effects while paying more and getting less from it then if I just went out and caught some H.

File that junk right next to pussy and respect.

They are both great, but id choose hydro over oxy. Just the fact that hydro isnt as stimulating as oxy is.
