Misc Where did the myth that "aged wine can act as a psychedelic" come from?

I was talking to a friend last night who had a bottle of merlot from 1995. He told me he was going to drink it and I said it would probably taste like vinegar. He told me it would but aged wine often gives a psychedelic effect. I doubt that is true, but where did that myth originate from?

I'm a wine drinker, usually go for a reasonably cheap australian bottle which should be drunk within a couple of years.

Now & again though I have a high quality bottle of something thats been 'laid down' for years...Chateu Neuf De Pape or similar.

But I've never had a psychedelic experience from any wine....sounds like a myth (load of bollox) to me.

Apparently GBL has been found in minute quantities in certain wines - although not at an active level. In any case, its not a psychedelic. Maybe it was a twist on that?
