Hi, My name is Jason. I have been addicted to heroin and other opiates for about 6 years now. In the beginning I used and still held a job down and took care of business, but as of these last couple of years I lost everything. I use to use just to go out and go to work if I had a job, or look for work if I didn't. I'm from Boston and around here they have something called a section 35, which is when the courts section you for 30 days to a rehab or jail because your a dangeour to yourself. I just came out of a section and still didn't stay clean. Whenever I'm using I say to myself that I just want to be clean so I can start working again and going to school and things like that, but after I detox I have no motivation to want to even leave the house. I'm involved in the AA program, because around here na is a joke, and it's even hard for me to even want to leave my house to go to a meeting. I use to be so motivated to want to do good in life, even when I first started using AI always looked into how I could move up in life, and when problems like losing a job or whatever came my way I handled it. Now I feel so miserable and unmotivated, angry and depressed that I just want to sleep the day away. I'm always going over in my head what Im thinking about thats wrong to make me so unhappy. I don't get it. Even when I end up relapsing and taking something everything makes sense. I'm all gung ho about wanting to do the right thing and stuff, no confusion. But the minute Im clean everything is so confusing. When will I get my strong sense of mind back again? When will everything start to fall in place with no confusion? When will I get my motivation back and actually start to feel good again?. One minute I'll be happy from going to meetings but then ask myself why arent I happy and motivated about work also?. I dont get it. Someone please give me some advice and explain to me whats going on with me. Thanks!

Feeling normal after long term opiate abuse can take anywhere from 6 months to 2 years. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but you are definitely a drug addict. Maybe you should look into going into a detox and then going away to rehab for at least 28 days if not 3 months or even longer. After all, what do you have to lose at this point? Usually detoxes will help you look into aftercare, so you won't have to find a rehab or therapeutic community all on your own.

You need to get a break from you drug use, get your head out of the clouds and most importantly, start taking this shit seriously. Your life is clearly spiraling downward and no matter how much you use, you problems will still be there when you come down. If you continue using, your life will just continue getting worse.

Addiction seriously robs you of your identity, or at least that's what happened to me. When I went away to detox/rehab I had no idea who I was (beyond a drug addict) or what I wanted out of life. I was just so clouded and obsessed with using and the lifestyle that goes along with using; after having some time away from the drugs and the lifestyle I got some relief and self-awareness back.

I am not saying you will go away and come back and everything will be peaches and cream, but at least you'll learn how to deal with your problems instead of running from them.

Hi Jason,

I am sorry to hear you were warded by the state because you were "a harm to yourself", that is such bullshit.

My friend was in rehab, and she wasn't ready to take her medicine, so she asked to wait another hour or so. They were OK with that. When she asked for her dose later, they said they threw it away (obviously covering up because someone used it themselves, obviously...). When she confronted them, the rehab "facility" called the police and explained she threatened to kill others and her own life. Despite that never happening, they still had to keep her in a hospital for 3 days legally. 8)

This is just one of many reasons why I would never voluntarily check myself into rehab, but regardless, I don't agree with state's laws saying you can detain people because "they might kill themselves".

I think this might be a better TDS post, but all in all, it does take time for your endorphins to effect you properly again - give it time and you'll feel better. Good luck!
