When Snorting Heroin is No Longer Practical

I have unfortunately gotten to that point where my tolerance has made it financially and physically impractical to snort heroin. Even with quality stuff, I have to sniff 4-5 bags (shittier stuff 6-8 ) in one sitting to get where I want to be. You can see how expensive this will become, and just how much powder has to be snorted.

Those who have gotten to this point in their H use, what did you do?

I know my options are pretty much as follows:

A) Continue to spend a shitload of cash on H to sniff.

B) Switch to IV administration. I will need far fewer bags to get high, and will give my nose a rest.

C) Take a break (how long?) to hopefully once again reduce my tolerance.

D) Quit for good.

Let's weigh the options.

A) This will cost tons of money and my tolerance will only increase. However, I will still not resort to IV.

B) IV will save money and my nose. However, I know that making this decision could be one I regret for a long time. Will never be able to go back to snorting, will do something I told myself I never would.

C) Seems like the best choice, but will a break really lower my tolerance?

D) Always the most healthy option, but I don't think I want to quit completely just yet.

I am curious about this, especially those who have been in my situation and switched to IV. Has anyone done this and not regretted it? Does the addiction really become that much worse? I have only heard, "When I switched to the needle, everything went downhill" stories. Are their different stories out there?

Please share your similar experiences. All suggestions are welcome.

There are certainly people that don't regret making the switch to iv. But, a lot do. Considering that you let intranasal heroin get out of control, it probably wouldn't be wise to switch to iv.

I'd go for "C." Look into using Suboxone for maintenance or as a detox aid.

If you really feel like you don't wanna quit (who does?), IV route like you said will save your money and be much more pleasurable than snorting. Comes down to do you like needles? ;x
Obviously the best advice is for you to quit for good. Quitting any IV habit is shit that goes without saying is even worse with H =/

I vote OPTION C... "give it a break"... try some other fun substances to keep you amused, if you wish to do so... easier said than done... sure... but probably a choice you will look upon in retrospect with pride... and maybe "C" will turn into "D" if you see what I mean :)...
(I have no experience with H... but I thought I throw my thoughts in anyway)

Does anyone like needles? ;) I mean, I am not afraid of them like some people, but the idea of injecting myself still makes me a bit anxious.

id be scared that id mess up and be unable to register a vein, or that my hands would get shaky. Also the anticipation of the rush would probably give me an anxiety attack.

There is another option....

Have you ever tried smoking your H?

You will need a good set up so you do not waste your gear, but you will find this much better than snorting in terms of effects per mg and initial hi.

I would have to say that being addicted to smoking is much harder to stop than snorting/eating.

Hope this gives you another option?

As this is a harm reduction site though, I would also have to go with C) or D).

^from what i gather hes on the east coast (could be wrong) cause around here if u dont IV it, you snort it. hardlyanyone smokes their dope around here. for one thing with out the right mix of caffeine the dope will just burn up way too fast.

there is an upside and downside to the desciosions. quit blowing it and start IVing...well for a while you would save $ because u wouldnt need to do as much as ur normal nasal dose to get high.

downside, its only a matter of time till you are using the same amount as u were before nasaly, but this time WD is far more worse. thats what i did when snorting wasnt enugh anymore. went out and got spikes and went off the deep end with it, as many of us eventually do.

then a time came for me to rethink my options and i did what phrozen just mentioned, got on suboxone and it turned my life around totally. it doesnt work for everyone, but for those whos lives have improved from it are proof enough.

as for quitting cold turkey, thats a great way to do it because you feel how nasty WD can be, which can sometimes make ppl get str8 as to not go thru the hellishness of it again. quitting like that is only good if u really want to stay clean.

i dunno, im stoned buped and benzod and this is getting hard to type and think..

Everyone that I know that was in your situation and started to bang their dope seriously regrets it. I would go for option C and go on Bupe. I did Subutex maintainance and it was a good experience. I didn't go through any withdrawals. I would stay away from Methadone if I were you. That shit is horrible and dangerous IME. I know more people that have OD'd from Methadone than H.

I think that now is maybe a good time for you to seek help and go to a suboxone clinic. I mean trying to carry on with your out of control addiction would be madness that would lead you to some inevitable serious pain. You couldn't maintain the high forever. Once you can no longer reasonably get high from snorting, you shouldn't immediately take that leap to IVing, because what is going to happen when you max out from IV use? You can die from overdose even when you have a high tolerance, when you're messing with large IV doses anything can happen. Your tolerance seems to be just growing and not stopping which is really bad. You are fucked :(. I too suffer from opiate addiction, but not at your level yet. My tolerance has kind of plateaued out luckily, but I'm sure I'm not getting the rush from instranasal diacetylmorphine that you are.

Good luck to you man! As I said, my advice is to get on sub.. Unless you can severely lower your H tolerance you aren't going to be able to maintain. It's the cold hard truth that you already know.

i would say C. as well.

i only snort H as well, and try to keep it to the weekends, but i still notice how much my tolerance has built even while doing that. im trying to slow my use/frequency, but its definately easier said than done.

good luck SonOF.

Take a break.

5-6 bags right, that's like anywhere from 50-100 bones. Well, if you IV, a dose is maybe a third of that? Half that? It doesn't matter, but point is is that even if you're spending more then 20 bucks to get high, and you get high every day, that's REAL fucking expensive.

I mean 50 is crazy, but 20 hurts too.

Take a break, IV isn't gonna be the economic savior you think it is.

Tolerance will still go up too anyways. I've known people to spend upwards of $1200/wk on heroin for years. Don't switch to IV just because of financial reasons. You should do drugs and administer them in such a way because it's pleasurable for you. Not to just get off.

I'm almost definitely going to take a break with Suboxone (I already have some in my possession) as an aid. It was strange though, about a month ago I quit for about a week with Suboxone, and my dose was around 2-3 bags (manageable). I came back, and the tolerance was about the same. Then, in the next three weeks or so, my tolerance began to rapidly increase. I used to try to have one 2-3 bag session per day. Then sometimes I had these sessions twice a day. Then 3 bags became 4, and 4 became 5 very quickly. I think my big mistake was when I began doing dope twice a day instead of once. Originally, a couple of bundles could last me a week. I would do my 2-3 bags (whatever was enough to get high), put the stuff away, and wait for the next day. However, in the least couple of weeks, it has become really hard to put the stuff away. I would do 3 bags, then grab another two afterward (what's two less for tomorrow?). Eventually these sessions would become binges, and not much would be saved for the next day. That's where I am at now.

So what do you suggest would be a good amount of time to stay off the shit? I really think I have the capability to eventually enjoy dope here and there (maybe a couple times a week), but I know that isn't a possibility in my current state.

When I used Subox to quite for a while about a month ago, the only withdrawal problems I had were depression and BOREDOM (physical symptoms didn't bother me). Nothing was fun (even things I normally like to do) and pretty much every day when evening came around I was BORED out of my mind. Since this was the time of day I always did dope, my brain my conditioned to think "this is fun time!" but would get no reward. Sometimes during this time I drank a bit of alcohol, which alleviated the boredom a bit. Any tips regarding alleviating this boredom and depression during withdrawal periods?

Thanks for all the suggestions guys. Although I wanted to hear everyone's input, I knew that going the needle route (although financially logical) wasn't for me. I can't picture myself doing it, I'd be too paranoid and anxious, and would so fear the repercussions of one of my loved one's finding out.

$80 per bundle (10 bags). So figure like 40 bucks a dose. Ack.8o

Yeah this is true, if I could undo one thing in my life it'd be the day I decided to let my friend hit me.. that said it is one hell of a rush.. I didn't really ever feel addicted before I slammed it, like a little but considering that I know what real WD is now it wasn't shit. Just more like a "want to" than a "need to", more mental.

If you don't have someone to shoot you up its not a good idea anyways, its harder than it sounds, you really have to watch the action of finding a vein, getting into it, registering and pushing down without slipping thrpugh or out of the vein.

To someone on the net whos really into heroin anyways, sure go for it, it is the fucking shit and you will get a lot more fucked up for a couple months, I mean its not even the same drug, I consider it like heroin.. then iv heroin and usually say it like that. But to anyone I know thats never shot up, that I know in person and care about I would never do it for them.. no offense, I'm trying to tell you something there.. you seem to get the idea anyways but I have to throw in my 2 cents..

I'm also really curious about this too. The toughest thing for me when stopping is the boredom that comes along withdrawing. I can get through the physical pain, but what really gets to me is the boredom.
