Heroin When IV'ing a good vein, do you move upwards or downwards on the vein as you go?

I don't know if I'm describing this right, but when you're shooting in a vein that you've used previously, do you move down your arm or up your arm? In other words, is it better to start at my wrist and work up my arm, or start at the crook of my elbow and work down to my wrist?

I have two opposing theories: 1) It's better to start high and work down because it's easier to register with the fresh flowing blood that hasn't reached the part of the vein that's all shot up, or 2) it's better to start low and work up because you don't want the drug to flow through the part of the vein that's all shot up and leak out (I swear I've felt a mild burning further up my vein where I'd been shooting previously).

What say you, BL?

From what I understand, of the 2 options you posted, the second one is the better choice, but the ideal thing to do would be to rotate to a completely different vein. If your using new needles every time and have proper technique then your second choice wouldn't be terrible, but if your reusing pins then that's just asking to get noticible track marks.

Start at your hand and work your way up your arm. That's the medical advice I've been given (sorry that sounds annoying, but I'm not very good yet so I feel like I need a disclaimer why I know it). If you damage your vein you aren't doing and good trying to push stuff through that part.

Rotating is also a good idea, but I find I get bruises and still need to go to some of the veins before they are fully healed.

BlueIV has the correct advise. It is highly recommended to completely change viens everyday.
