Tapering When is the right time to get off methadone?

I’d like to start a discussion on peoples experience of getting off methadone. When did you know it was time for you to start coming down? How successful were you? Did you have to go back on methadone after you got off due to (whatever reasons)? I’m on 125mg right now and sometimes I’ll skip my dosing and use… I know I shouldn’t be doing that, which is why I’m asking these questions. Should I stay on methadone until I can not use for a year? Longer? I just hate these liquid handcuffs honestly… I’m educated, have a great job, yet I cannot travel or do much because I’m on methadone… Thanks BlueLight Fam!

Honestly I taper down as soon as possible. Methadone is a bitch.
I was 1 year addicted of smoking heroin
I tried over 50 times to get clean and finally managed to quit cold turkey.

I was supposed to be on 8mg suboxone for 2 months then taper down but I am really scared of long acting opioids due to the withdrawals

I think if you're still using dope its not the time to taper... everyone is different and everyone has the time to come down. Methadone is a double edge sword. If you're on methadone you know you can use H with no WDs and this can be counterproductive.
