Honestly, this isnt what you want to hear.. but you really shouldn't go picking mushrooms.. you have to REALLY know what you're looking for and know how to properly identify them.. I don't believe there is any test, you just have to know.. and with there being thousands of different mushroom types you have to be absolutely sure, like no doubt about it at all. There is so much information on the net in regards to all this that I have to question your ability to actually pull this off if you have to ask like this.

Your best bet is to do a shitload of reading on the shroomery..

Your real best bet is to just order some spores and grow your own.. Not sure what the legality on spores is there, but I know in a lot of places they are legal whereas the mushrooms themselves are not.

I agree with infantannhilator's last statement. Order some spores and grow em! I have a close friend who has done this and says it's really simple if you do a lil research.

Shame them grow kits are no longer legal (here in the UK anyway) they made the process pretty easy...

I have no idea what species are common in Aus, but I do know that picking the wrong shroom has been known to be pretty fatal! There's a dozen or more species of British psilocybes but I've only ever ID'd Semilanceata, so they're the only ones I'll pick. But I am very fond of Cyanescens (friend has picked them for me), they're not uncommon & fairly easy to ID (apparently) & I'm hoping to find some one day, out in the wild. When/if I do, I will be very wary about trying them if I am anything less than 1000% certain I've picked the right ones.

So, yeah the advice to research the subject exhaustively is the best you can hope for. You need to know exactly what you're doing!

I live on the West coast of FL & we have Cubensis & Copelandia in massive quantities. You're best bet is to find someone who is familiar with the species in your area & learn from them. Cubensis are pretty easy to ID. Blue bruising of the stem is the best indicator. Once you get the hang of it, it's easy & fun. I don't even like tripping on shrooms but I love to go out picking for fun.
They mostly grow in shaded or wooded areas near trees & fences rather than out in the middle of the field. You don't have to go in the morning. They come up at any time. The sun might dry them out a bit though. Watch for ranchers. Some are cool with people picking, and some might shoot at you with rock salt. If you feel comfortable, you can ask the rancher for permission to "gather manure for an organic gardening project." That way, even if they do see you picking mushrooms, they probably won't call the cops or pull out a shotgun.

Edit: Just want to add, driving into my neighborhood which is mostly cow pasture you can literally smell the mushrooms at night. When they're blooming they're everywhere. Watch out for snakes. Also, sloshing around in wet cow pasture is a great way to get hookworms. Don't wear sandals or flip flops. (experience)

If you are serious about picking shrooms, you should start by carefully studying the Stamets book.
Then get an account at the shroomery.org and use their excellent identification team. I don't know about bluelight, but I thing reddit.com/r/shroomers also helps identify. In any case you will have to post pictures taken according to very specific rules, spore prints, weather and environmental data.

Remember there are only two kinds of mushrooms pickers, smart ones, and dead ones. Even some of the smart ones are dead.

Gosh it's all sweetness & light in here, ain' it?

Like the post above, I'm warning of fatal poisonings, we're dodging snakes & gunfire in the post above that! Fuck in hell! Maybe op should just go have a quiet beer & a spliff!

lmfao!

Is Copolandia a Cyanscens? Are they related to the UK cyanescens & if so, do they bruise also? Here's pics of the UK Cyanescens if that helps at all -

This kinda violates our no sourcing rule, even if the source is poo ;)

Definitely don't just wander out & pick some as that could be dangerous. Someone with lots of experience would be your best bet for getting wild ones. Shroomery.org has some great info on all sorts of shroom related things as well.
