I've never actually cleaned my bong (haven't had it for more than 6 mo) but I change the water regularly.
With my pipes, it's alcohol + salt in a ziplock baggie. Shake shake shake shake shake.
If I don't have rubbing alcohol or salt, I just use hot water and a bobby pin to scrape the bowl. This isn't for complete cleanings, justfor "it's kinda clogged and I just need to get it to work for the moment."
I think I left my bubbler at the ex's. That one, I changed the water every day. Scraped out the bowl. Didn't use it enough to have to do anything else to it.

In my area they sell this stuff called 420 cleaner. It does an amazing job much better than ISO and salt.
It really does an awesome job even on the most neglected peices.

as for the bowls... see the cup in one of my pics you can see the stems in there... on the bottom is the bowls... just plop it in the juice before work or at night rinse it when you wake up or get back home... voila... clean

I haven't analyzed the stuff, so don't take my word as fact, but I have a sneaking suspicion that Formula 420 shit is really just salt and rubbing alcohol. It smells like alcohol, and it has little visible crystals of salt in it...

i use the highest % of iso rubbing I can then a bit of salt. this does take a minute to work. I'll just leave it over night soaking and in the morning its soft and ready to be blown out with some hot h20.
please keep in mind this is for a bubbler (aka only filtrates once). I dont have any perc pieces or multi-filts. works fine for mine and costs about $1 to clean per wash.

I've stuck to the isopropyl and salt method also for a long time, but sometimes it can be tedious to do if you have many pieces. I was looking for a safe liquid to use more for a soaking method. I've tried the 420 cleaner, and although it does it's job, I also suspect it to be nothing more than some cleaning solvent and salt. The main problem I have with 420 cleaner is that it leaves a smell which you can taste when smoking after using the cleaner. (even if you rinse it out many times)
So I was wondering if Grunge off also leaves any type of smell behind? From the pics and descriptions it seems like it works better than anything i've tried so far. (and i've tried a lot) I just really don't like the taste of 420 after cleaning, and isopropyl does the job well, it just requires time and cleanup.

It works even better if you use warm alcohol. Don't be an idiot and try to heat it up on the stove though! Just take the bottle and submerge it in hot water for a few minutes.
I've also found that a nice soaking with Baking Soda can get rid of the old bong smell, even if the alcohol doesn't.

me and my bud share an acryllic bong. I have all these neat tools, like wood carving stuff and some curtain hangers, which are great for cleaning, especially the stem. After every bag we scrape for resin and smoke it, usually enough to get us nice and high and it's easy to scrape and smoke too. I'm probably going to sandwich some resin between weed tonight

I like to keep my bong clean so I replace the water after ever sesh. Plus I like the water to always be ice cold so I can take fat rips easily. I smoke out of my bong a lot so I'll clean with some rubbing alcohol about once a week to get ride of the shitty taste that develops.
It also helps to get a fat pipe cleaner from home depot or something so make cleaning the tube easier.
