    Welcome Guest!

whats up with candy kids?

I have a few candy bracelets I like to wear, but that's about as far as I go.

For me it's just like any other subculture, it's to signify that you hold a common set of ideals and have similar tastes in music etc. To me it's just about being open, having fun, friendliness and of course pumping dance music.

Never went full out with the bracelets or wear phatties or anything because I like to be able to go to other venues/out in public without being refused entry or standing out too much. Just a few bracelets I can easily remove to get me into the right frame of mind as part of the whole experience.

Ah sorry, didn't mean to get all up and shirty with you. What I meant by my post was that candy kids were a bit crazy woah colourful to look at/be with. but later the same night I learnt to love my fellow man and have no problem with this colourful little subculture ..

Well then.. yay! :)

I don't consider myself a Kandi kid, however I do have some Kandi that has been given to me. I personally love traded Kandi; like someone said above it's a good way to meet new people. And while some Kandi kids are a lil' over the top most of them are the nicest people I've ever met. Going to a rave is all about expressing yourself and not worrying about being judged right?

Exactly. I always loved making a ton of candy bracelets, going to a party and then coming home with all new bracelets that I'd traded. I never saw most of those people again but for a day we connected and traded something and I think that's really beautiful.

It's a whole subculture, like the punk movement in many ways - they've got their own clothing style, their music, their own special rules, rituals, and what not. To each their own, right? A rave is the type of place where you should be able to express yourself to the fullest extent, however you choose. If you want to be at a rave plain-clothed, and that gets you off, then by all means, go for it. If you want to cover yourself in candy bracelets and have a name like Plurberry McSprinklemuffin, well, hey, go for it. Some might consider you silly - but, fuck it, what does it matter? If you enjoy yourself, that's what's important.

amen

i love giving and recieving kandy, it isnt something you go to the store and buy. people make them and they each have a peice of the person you befriended.

Tell you the truth, candy kids give great light shows and some of the girls dressed up like that that I see at the club I just want to take home and fuck them in the ear. Freedom of expression is everything. Don't judge people by the way they dress and act.

yeah girls in candy will def catch it. Otherwise I think its some dumb shit. The point is not that they are exercising freedom of expression but rather they are all the same which is very lame. Also HHC has ruined electronic music in my town where the candy scene is still quite strong at all events. Promoters fund HHC events because they are more profitable but the shit is not even music, it kills the legit electronic scene and takes away credability from the whole movement. Also I have beef with candy because the majority of the candy ravers I see are really young kids being sucked into a drug centric culture just because they want to feel accepted. IMO no 16 year old should be droping pills.

Sure I would rather see candy kids than shady gangster wannabees but many of the kandy kids are becoming increasingly shady and k'ed out. All in all I think its really cute when girls do it but guys come on, leave your xbox and play some fucking sports.

Never seen candy kids in real life, or hung around them. I always thought they were pretty cool lookin' though. In the dark light, those glow in the dark bracelets and black light activated makeup is pretty sweet in a rave environment.

Always cool when another person causes tracers just by being around you. I always thought it was sweet how people's teeth would glow when they smiled at a nightclub filled with blacklights

No need to hate on them, I think they're a pretty cool reminder of what was cool about the 90's rave generation. I kind of wish I didn't miss it, but Puerto Rico was never rave central. ^-^ (Sure had it's turns though)

Are there Kandy kids in Australia?

I want some Kandy.

How do you make it? I didnt know they made it, thats awesome coolness.

There are plenty in the scene here in Adelaide, not sure about the other cities.

There's gotta be kandi kids in Australia. :)

You've never had someone give you kandi, Maz? That's a shame! :(

Kandi is easy to make. Go to a craft store where they sell beads. Most people use plastic beads and the alphabet block letters to spell out stuff, ect. Of course, the brighter the beads the better, and glow in the dark is a plus. You'll need some beading cord, the stretchy kind is the best (sorry, the proper name eludes me atm).

Someone get Maz some kandi! :) I don't make it anymore, but have plenty of it that I keep in a special box. I wear a few on occasion. ;)

Thanks for all the feedback, i definately have a better understanding. I might have came off a little harsh in my original post. I meant that the shady people threw me off not the kandy kids. I do however find it funny when people defend it by saying that they just want to look different and "do you just want everyone to look exactly like you" and shit. Funny because they look exactly like everyone else at a rave so its not exactly being original now is it. If somone showed up in a banana suit i might give them props because no one else has a banana suit on.

Haha Whats wrong with dressing any way you choose?
Last time I checked, it was our right?

It's also not original since they were big in the 90's and most of the kids today might have still been in diapers or still in grade school then (imo). It's ok, whatever someone wants to wear is fine by me:)

Well, twenty years ago I used to judge a good outfit by how appalled my mother was by it, so I can't talk.

They kind of creep me out to be honest, and I hate the music styles that they are associated with. But whatever.
