I went to a rave for the first time a while back and i was kind of put off by the people there. There were alot of shady people there to begin with, but the "candy kids" probably threw me off the most. I dont understand how all of the stuff they do is somehow associated with ecstasy... I mean ive taken plenty of E and it never made me want to wear 100 bracelets on my arms and necklaces and weird ass clothes. I know it is some form of expression but whats the point of it all? From somone who is associated with this, were you into all of it before you took E? Why do you wear all the braclets and such? Do you dress like this outside of the raves?

Im not trying to bash i really am interested in the thinking behind all of it. Even before i had ever taken E i knew what it meant when i saw somone wearing all this as do most people, but knowing that people do associate the two, why would you dress like that knowing others will know(or have some idea) that your into e. Its kind of like and advertisment for being an e-tard.

big in the 90's dunno why they're doing it now

usually the youngers who don't care what others think

Im with ya on that but whatever floats their boat, I guess

honestly i think they are kind of awsome lmaoo... they were def big in the 90's because i remember my sister telling me how obscure she thought they were they would even go to school dressed like that. boy have times changed lol

yeah some like just being different. im sort of a kandi kid persay but I dont go over board like I wear camo kandi cuffs that I made with some ufo pants because they are dam comfortable and very easy to dance in and a shirt with something cute on it with my lego shaped back pack. I like to do it because it is fun and it also puts of a aura that im not a complete jaded ass hole that wont talk to noobs, like its sign that says " hey im fun come talk to me"

It's a whole subculture, like the punk movement in many ways - they've got their own clothing style, their music, their own special rules, rituals, and what not. To each their own, right? A rave is the type of place where you should be able to express yourself to the fullest extent, however you choose. If you want to be at a rave plain-clothed, and that gets you off, then by all means, go for it. If you want to cover yourself in candy bracelets and have a name like Plurberry McSprinklemuffin, well, hey, go for it. Some might consider you silly - but, fuck it, what does it matter? If you enjoy yourself, that's what's important.

Smuggling suggestions are clearly against forum guidelines ~PFF

and a kandi I havent seen in YEARS is sesame street tooth brush bracelets. where you boil the tooth brush and then bend it around your wrist!

just FYI that is just asking for trouble! they crumble to much or flake off or just plain split into 100 pieces :P ived tried it with one before just because I was bored waiting before a party, put it on one of those candy necklaces you can eat. by the end I was just left with a bunch of E dust and shards.

It's...just the scene? Why do gangsters wear gangster clothes? Why do goths dress goth? Etc, etc.

I remember being at a rave and thinking wtf is wrong with those people? I Also remember befriending some (after coming up ofc) ending up getting kitted out and totally understanding why people do that shit hahaha. Not something i'd do again but damn all that stuff felt good at the time. ^__^

& FYI - happy hardcore is awful.

Its all for fun, I love it and I usually go to a rave with no kandi and come back covered, its a good way to let people know your not a dickhead and here in oz there are 2 kinds of ravers, Real ravers who go for the music, drugs, dancing whatever and then theres lads(look it up, theyre a gang who suck balls) and im sure most lads wouldnt get caught dead with kandi on, so usually you can go up to someone with kandi on and have a good conversation or at least get a smile outta them.

If your really turned off that much by kandi try going to one of the more hardcore, darker raves because usually people dont wear so much kandi at them, its mostly happy hardcore raves that I see people decked out with kandi shit. Im going to one of these more hardcore raves this weekend yeaya...

I dont understand what your problem is with kandy kids.

Is it because they are different to you?

Do they hurt you?

I guess you hate gays as well then?

Do you really want the world to be a carbon copy of you?

How boring.

i don't think anyone in here has said that they hate candy kids (except newbierock, who only implied it). it just seems to be a subculture that takes dressing up a bit more seriously than any others, and people want to know what's up with it. i admit i find it to be one of the more bizarre subcultures which has evolved. doesn't mean I hate them.

there are various kinds of darker raves.

raves with darkpsy. usually with other styles like hardstyle, hardtrance, ... mixed crowd

raves with gabber: gabberheads and speedcore freaks. it's all about the music, and dancing really fast. harder is better!

raves with industrial electronic music: it's all about being dark and having the attitude.

I've had great times dancing on gabber. I love the old style gabber bass kick. but, dancing all-night long on gabber is really hard on the body...

Yeah, I've come back from an event and taken off my shoes and realized my toes were bleeding from HC stomping for hours. And back pain.

But now on to kandi...
Yeah, for me, it all depends on the event. If it's a renegade, I know I'd get my ass jumped if I rocked my kandi. So, basically like everyone is saying, it depends on what type of music the event is based around. I am a gabberhead but I fucking love HHC too. And I'm a total kandi kid at heart.

And now for the reasons kandi is the shit:
1. Words. A pretty lady asks you your name and you can barely hear each other? Flash your wrist and now she know. I have one with my name and one with my city.

2. Memories. I know where almost all of my kandi came from. I might not remember a lot about some of my fucked up nights, but I remember who I got the kandi from and I see them at other events and shit.

3. It basically says that you're somewhat friendly, which I am, so it works.

Another thing for me is that I dress so plainly everyday, except when I rave. At a rave, I do whatever I'm feeling. It makes me feel more free to know that I look ridiculous.

To sum this overly long post up, I think kandi is embodiment of the spirit of the raves where it is worn. It expresses the freedom, and because of that freedom, you don't have to wear kandi to fit in but you can if you want.
