On Monday I have to deal with a cunt pharmacist. My doctor put in my six month alprazolam script for my spastic colon, as per usual for over six years now… and the pharmacist called me five minutes later to inform me she won’t fill it, didn’t give any explanation as to why save for “it’s too much” and said that she will only talk to my doctor but still won’t fill it and that I see a doctor “too far away”. Didn’t even accuse me of abuse or anything… so I’m fairly sure it’s a religious thing with this bitch.

So yeah I am currently stressed. I liked the generic brand that pharmacy carries and the other pharmacy in town uses an Indian generic that’s mostly bunk.

I tried to look into legal recourse to maybe sue her for bias or something but apparently pharmacists are immune and can deny scripts for whatever reason (racism, religion, etc.) but I just don’t get why one would become a pharmacist if one believes that no one should ever ever ever have any medications.

So I am stressed. Probably gonna have to change to a pharmacy that doesn’t carry the brand I prefer, assuming they aren’t religiously biased too…

And so I don’t feel like seeing any films or going out this weekend till I sort this out on Monday and get my doc to at least chew her a new one. I told him she’d said rude stuff to my wife last time she picked it up for me and he said he’d advocate for me and ensure I get my script filled.

That sucks man, I've been through the whole thing with super religious doctors. Took me forever to find a good old school one. It's really frustrating.

For sure, that’s why I haven’t changed doctors despite moving two hours away over three years ago. Found one I liked and won’t switch till he retires.

Can’t believe pharmacists are legally allowed to deny a script on literally any basis. I mean… I thought we had laws in place to protect against racism and religious biases.

Yeah, when I moved states I had to do the same thing. I had an established doctor and was willing to keep my appointments every three months despite the travel... but the pharmacists and eventually my doctor became not comfortable with it. And I had to make a change.
 
defo want to see the new pta - generally love his stuff.

but...

i live in a pretty small town - population ~20k - and, because it's a summer and winter destination, we have an 8-screen cinema. screens are not huge but there's usually a decent selection. and i can bike down there and leave the car at home.

found out yesterday the cinema is closing :(

so now i'll have to drive about 45 mins to next nearest cinema. not the end of the world but it sucks we lost our cinema...

Story of my movie viewing life. Nearest theater to my home is about 45-60 minutes away. Even when I lived in a big city my favorite theaters had already closed and required a half hour drive to get to any replacements.

Film is dying a slow death. My lifelong dream job would be to own and operate a cinema. I have no illusions about the fact that it can never be.
 
The East (2021)

Dutch film about a fictionalized tale of their campaign to hold onto Indonesia. Incredibly well done. It reminded me of Platoon, Apocalypse Now, and many of Tarantino and Werner Herzog’s films put together.

What can I say, I’m a sucker for films about people dying for no good reason in the jungle. Good shit, would watch again.

^ never heard of it. sounds great.

i watched black bag.

fassbender and blanchett were great as were the more minor characters. it looked modern but had a very old school (think tinker, tailer) plot. very soderbergh feel.

I have a small cinema in my town but it's not very nice. I usually choose to drive to the bigger nicer one 45 minutes away. But driving that long is pretty standard for me so I'm used to it. I don't mind it, gives me the chance to catch up on music on the way.

I just went and saw it this afternoon.

After all the hype and not spoiling it for myself I went in with an open mind.

I came out feeling it was one of PTA’s weaker films.

The characters were not fleshed out, the ones we did get time with were walking talking characatures (sp?), especially Sean Penn’s and just about every one of the “revolutionary” French 75 bunch. I felt very little sympathy for any characters or their motivations; especially early on with the French 75 prologue of sorts, they really rubbed me wrong. DiCaprio’s character seemed more real than the rest and so he really carried the film along with the girl who played Willa. Sean Penn did a fantastic job acting, but again, felt like some kind of characature (sp?) without any depth.

The humorous moments weren’t as humorous as some of PTA’s better films. Simply put, the world felt flat and fake. The overall story was not deep, it didn’t seem to have any nuance.

It all felt a bit on the nose.

I had no trouble sitting through the whole film and will likely view it again.

Nevertheless, I would rate it 6.5/10

Reminded me of Magnolia. Another PTA film that felt flat, pointless, on the nose, and longwinded. He was later quoted saying he wished he’d made Magnolia shorter. Perhaps the same will later be said about One Battle After Another.

i generally like his stuff but feel the same way about magnolia. it's often compared with boogie nights which i think is the better film.

i loved this, obvs.

Jikirag (2022)

Was actually a really great movie, I just don't think anybody understood it.
For one thing, the dialogue is in Old English so this will mostly appeal to the people who liked The VVItch (2015).
And also, I've seen it get tossed around in different genres, people not really knowing what to make of it, but I'd call it Folk Horror.

Folk Horror is usually categorized as supernatural, but not specifically demonic, meaning it is outside the realms of Abrahamic myth.
Or in the case of Jikirag specifically, it does a little bit of what Marion Zimmer Bradley did with The Mists Of Avalon in novella, it kind of tacks the films timeline in the late 1200's, which is a very specific time for medieval Europe, only a couple hundred years of coming out of the Dark Ages.

I don't know if I can even rightfully call it a Horror movie, because I understand the context.
However if I didn't understand the context, then yeah, I'd probably call it a horror movie because a lot of bad, spooky kinda crap happens in it.
But WHY they happen in the film to me, makes perfect logical sense.
