🌟🌟 Social 🌟🌟 What's the last film you saw? v. Why doesn’t Peter Jackson wear shoes?

He Sees You When You’re Sleeping (2024)

Ok 70’s set Christmas slasher. Some odd acting which takes you out of it and then you reload how bad the story actually is.

Just watched smile 2. Even less good than the first one. Nothing to write Home about.

I agree the original was better.
But I still thought 2 was pretty excellent compared to most mainstream horror films.

Went to see Heretic last Friday.
It lived up to the hype in my mind, at least until about 2/3 of the way through.

Acting was excellent. The premise has so much potential. I just think it became a bit of a mess towards the end.

Still very enjoyable though and I 100% recommend it if you are a fan of A24 like me.
Just don't expect it to measure up to something like the Witch or Hereditary.

Did you ever see The Lighthouse? My wife loved The Witch but she says she'll never watch The Lighthouse again, it really disturbed her for some reason. I thought it was some of Robert Pattinson's best acting.

Haven't gotten around to watching it yet, but I want to.

Just watched Richard linklaters Apollo 10 ½: A Space Age Childhood. One of his better movies.

Trainspotting 2

I've been avoiding watching that movie since it came out for various reasons. I'm so glad I waited, now that I'm older myself, I don't think I would have appreciated the movie nearly as much back in 2017. I felt like it was the perfect movie I needed to watch today, and it actually gave me some introspective and positive emotions that I needed in this moment. Great cinematography, and a great homage to the first film.

What I really loved and related to most was Spud's writing. It really was the factor that weaves the story into my own life and memories.

Great soundtrack, too.

What ever happened to baby Jane ? Had not seen it in a long time, its very good. Then watched Days of wine and roses, another old but goody.

The Cook, The Thief, His Wife, and Her Lover

What the fuck did I just watch? I understand it's supposedly commentary on Thatcher era England but I just... what?

^ greenaway's movies can be pretty out there but that's an absolute masterpiece.

Can you express why you think it is a masterpiece? I went in with little info and have not studied that era of UK politics. It was not a bad film but I don't understand the NC-17 rating nor do I really get the point. The thief was a boorish prick and everyone just kinda put up with his shit, I can see how that would be commentary. Maybe I missed something.

i am mostly thinking production design and cinematography - so many of the shots would be striking, rich, colorful paintings (the use of color throughout is so 'in your face'). the performances are great and the dialog provocative.

it was released in the late 80s so i would have been in my early 20s and britain was in the middle of peak thatcher. these were contentious times. there's obviously some social commentary on themes of power and dominance and how men and women achieve those differently, gluttony and sexual excess, betrayal and revenge.
