🌟🌟 Social 🌟🌟 What's the last film you saw? v. Why doesn’t Peter Jackson wear shoes?

Disclosure Day (6.9/10)

I watched it yesterday and it's a fun sci-fi romp. There were some interesting ideas in there and some good integration of some tropes regarding the subject matter. Did it have some dumb and fairly underwhelming action scenes? Yes. Was the overall movie entertaining with a fairly decent premise? Yes. Was some of the acting a little subpar and cartoonish? Also yes. Did it need to be 2.5 hrs long? No. Was it fun to smoke a joint and watch? Yes. Definitely not Spielberg's best work; but It was decent.

Yeah, my expectations for this were so high. But it was very underwhelming. It felt like the script was written twenty years ago, and as you said the action sequences were terrible. It just hurts me when I see a movie like this that probably had a blank check for the budget and they choose to play it so safe.

The Last Voyage of the Demeter was first. Maybe not the best movie but it's super upfront about what it is and right up my alley personally so it's definitely going to be remembered by me as one of my favorite movies of all time. Granted, one of my favorite original characters for roleplaying is a pirate captain who is also a vampire so it felt like a little horror love letter written just for me.

I watched this in theaters without looking at the reviews at all and loved it. It's not the film of the century or anything but it's absolutely underrated.

I honestly came into it blind with no expectations beyond sci-fi flick; I didn't even know it was a Spielberg picture. Those action scenes were comically bad, so much so that I literally thought that it might be some young new director directing their first feature film. It was entertaining, but as you said, could've been so much more with the likely blank check budget-wise.

In my opinion, the action scenes were wonky on purpose. For example, the kid getting away in the car would not have been able to, under normal circumstances.

Doesn't make it any better perhaps, arguably worse, but it does add to the mystical element.

Hmm, I don't think I agree. The henchman are supposed to be an almost parallel government with infinite funding? How are they so inept over and over again? Felt a bit more like lazy writing to me and plot armor for one of the main characters. They could have added some kind of sci-fi element to it relatively easily too, something at least somewhat believable in terms of explaining how the guy got away in the car.

You have to ask yourself though, would someone like Spielberg do that? Do you think he isn't aware of how inept the government agents were? And he just said "whatever" and end scene?

I can understand the analysis of armature films, but when it's someone like that you've gotta assume that every single frame is there for a reason.

Yes, I think he phoned it in.

I honestly think it was a good premise, but poorly executed. I was even quite happy with the ending and some of the questions it makes one ask themselves. I enjoyed the film, but the more I think about it, the more I think mary jane was doing some pretty heavy lifting yesterday to earn a 6.9/10 for me :ROFLMAO:

I'm a big UFO fan and was disappointed to see his second UFO movie was just meh. I'll still probably watch it based on your review.

:ROFLMAO:

Well, that's why I try not to over analyze films. Because how the fuck would we know?
I'm revising it down to a 6/10 just to spite you! You made me question myself and think more and my head hurts now. I'm not going to give Spielberg the benefit of the doubt.

"Arrival" is maybe my favorite sci-fi film in a similar vein and that cost 47 million to make and is just...a way better film in every sense. "Disclosure Day" cost 115 million...

Contact is one of my favorite alien/sci fi films. Based on a Carl Sagan book directed by Robert Zemeckis ... Jodie Foster, Matthew McConaughey. Doesn't get enough credit imo.
Oooh, great film! Might have to rewatch that. Any other sci-fi recommendations?
