Nice little surprise this one :)

congrats on your success. as a freelance bluelighter.

The Brass Teapot

not sure if the first half of this movie is much better than the second, or if i was just hopeful because of the beginning of the movie presented what i was looking for -- quirky romantic comedy, young pretty female lead, possibility of that good sad feeling. the movie takes those elements and paste them into the formula. i was bored. and could not become enamored with juno temple's character. i really like her. i hate ellen page and i used to always mistake juno for ellen when reading cast lists. i've learned. anyway, this movie is unspectacular litter.

Greenberg

second time i've accidentally watched a movie twice because i've been slacking in this thread. watching this again was fine. when it started, i searched this thread, came up with nothing, and figured i must have bailed on it before. but the intro is so nice; i couldn't figure out why i would have bailed. i was guessing at what was going to be wrong with the movie. like maybe i turned it off because it was another cookie cutter indie -- as in the genre, not a lack of major backing -- about trying to connect in the sterile, medicated, computer screened 21st century. it is. but i never turned it off. because it's decent. the girl is much better than ben stiller. the intro scene is much better than the rest. oh, and the girl is not juno temple. her role is like 45 seconds. that's ok.

The Bling Ring

it falls so fucking flat. i can't believe sofia let this reach the public. hopefully this is the low point of her career. it would have been embarrassing at any time, but damn. released so close to Spring Breakers. they are not perfect parallels. but both are trying to deconstruct "cool" while being cool. harmony is a heavyweight in that arena. still surprising the extent that sofia has no clue. she knew what designer names to drop. that's all. we are all too old, but i'm young(er) enough that i feel comfortable judging. she's a huge dork in the wrong way for this. she is successful in Marie Antoinette because it's a fitting lens. extravagant, ornate, youth observed. as opposed to a direct attempt to emulate youth. The Bling Ring is repetitive nonsense with dialogue that reminds me of an older sitcom character being the butt of a joke for a failed pop culture reference.

The Go-Getter

i broke my rule and read the netflix description before watching. thought it was gonna be no good. i was gonna be fine with a nothing movie. because whatever and jena malone. her character is what middle school boys think about when they jerk off. pretty unbearable. the movie is alright. the director likes godard. they reenact the madison scene from Bande a part. it shares themes, plot, and structure with Pierrot le fou. when zooey asks if she can really believe anything anyone says, it's like a dumbed down version of life is a picture. the transposed cell phone conversations remind me of the pillow talk narration. it turns out a little better for zooey and her boy, but the sudden need for escape from the mundane leading to a semi-aimless road trip. pacing like nodding. the driving, dream scene seems like it's trying to capture a bit of the aesthetic. and while i am projecting here, it could be said the way jena malone and zooey's characters contrast and compliment mirrors something about how Pierrot le fou is able to play with anna's character by maintaining continuity while rotating multiple contexts. that last sentence is a joke of trying to sum up Pierrot le fou's intricate play with narrative. and even though i am comparing, the two films obviously don't compare.

The Vicious Kind

A Netflix reco that I had never heard of. It's from 2009, and indie flick with Adam Scott. It was a fairly dark comedy and was super intense and I think I'm developing a thing for Adam Scott.

Adam Scott is estranged from his father and is in a rough place since his chick cheated on him. He spews hatred regarding women.. He scoops up his fresh-faced and very innocent younger brother from school along with his somewhat edgy-looking girlfriend to bring them home for Thanksgiving weekend at their father's house. The plot thickens. *acting intensifies* The end.

It reminds me of those cold, dreary-type movies that i love, like Beautiful Girls and No Looking Back.

I thought it was a pretty good film though. I tend to like Robin Williams in dramatic roles.

Not sure if you've seen them yet, but Good Morning, Vietnam and The Fisher King were both great movies with Robin Williams in dramatic roles. He plays a schizophrenic, homeless man in The Fisher King, and he plays it well.

I saw Spring Breakers last night. It starred ass. ass. titties; titties, titties, ass. Boobs, boobs, boobs, ass, ass, ass. Big ole' titties and some fine piece of ace. %)

There was some other stuff too. It was alright.

Selena Gomez played semi up-tight party girl pretty well. You could read the uncomfortableness all over her. James Franco played creepy, white, ghetto gangster well. Finally, Vanessa Hudgens. Oh Vanessa, Vanessa, Vanessa. She played the girl gone bad sooo well. She was totally down to get bad. To go wild and blow coke and fuck in the pool. Fuck on a pile of cash and automatic weapons. You could read it in her face and in her body language. She was 100% DTF and was ready to do whatever. She was soo sexy in this movie. Her sexy level shot up and sprayed all around the room in a Stay-Puft-Marshmallow-Man-exploding-at-the-end-of-Ghostbusters type of way. ;) =D

The repetitive voiceovers were a bit annoying and their wasn't much in the way of a plot. Interesting movie, but I honestly don't think it would be as good if you removed the stars; titty and ass. If they had removed a lot of the sexy (talking about more than just the nudity) than I don't think it would have been as good a film. So I'm not sure what that says about a movie (that isn't a porno) that is so based on it's use, level, and presentation of ass, ass, titties. Titties, titties, ass.

I smell an Oscar. (I hope thats an Oscar)

Four Rooms

Being both a Tarantino fan and a Tim Roth fan, I somehow never caught this one. I loved it though, it feels like writing and producing this film must have been a lot of fun and involved a great deal of creative freedom. The Penthouse scene is my favorite, probably one of my favorite QT scenes of all time at this point. 10/5

Speaking of QT films I've never seen, I'm just settling in to watch Jackie Brown now. The social consequences for having never seen this have become too much, and I have to give it a go :P

^damn bro. four rooms is so 90's, and jb, well i think i've raved about that more than enough here.

speaking of watching old films for the first time, i finally watched the first three hellraiser films yesterday. i think it is safe to say i missed that boat. won't bother with the other five.

Random Netflix reco, yet again:

Digger

1996

Paul Rudd, Maura Tierny (she's so kind hot in her own way, love her) amongst others in an ensemble cast

It's set in dingy Long Island. All the male characters continue in their families' work of clam digging, but are terrified it will be their way of life. And then some more shit happens.

Both Paul Rudd and Adam Scott are making me feel kind of funny.

My Idiot Brother only helped that.

ive been re-reading "elli" and as a result have been watching schindlers list in parts (i fall asleep by lamplight).

its such an amazing and underrated (yet long) spielberg production and depiction of life during the holocaust/ww2. its a film worth revisiting.

id highly recommend <3

Been on a romantic drama/rom-com roll lately.

Started with Punch Drunk Love, which I enjoyed much more than I thought I would. Adam Sandler played his part very well and overall I enjoyed the movie. Sort of reminded me of Lost in Translation for some reason.

Then watched Before Sunrise. Was a little disappointed, but that was most likely because I had high expectations given it's high rating on IMDB and how I've seen it on a number of lists of top movies. It was good and all, but I found it to be a little dull. Though I'm still planning on checking out the sequel Before Sunset.

Finally, I watched Silver Linings Playbook. Great chemistry between Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence. The whole cast was superb though. I thought the movie handled the mental health aspect of it well and in a realistic way. Maybe the fact that everyone seemed to have some sort of problem added to that realism. Nice to see Chris Tucker back in a film. I thought he may have retired from acting. Played his part well too, certainly a different role than he's usually in. I sort of had a crush on Jennifer Lawrence after seeing her as Katniss in The Hunger Games, but after this I think she is one of the most beautiful actresses in Hollywood today. She has an absolutely stunning body, as was seen in the dancing scenes. Really enjoyed watching this and would definitely recommend it.

Gravity.

Visually great, just irksome when being very unrealistic on occasion. Made me contemplate my mortality quite a bit. I would have preferred lesser known actors for the main roles. I think it would have suited the style of movie a lot more.
