whats the healthiest food IYO?

Question:
Are hemp seeds like flax seeds, where if they are not ingested ground, you just shit them out without absorbing the healthy oils?

ebola

just a general fyi, the healthy oils in flax are far inferior to those found in fish oil (DHA/EPA, versus primarily ALA in flax).

Any kind of fatty fish, the whole thing, including the stomach contents, that's low on the food chain so as to contain little mercury or other toxins that bioaccumulate. Such as sardines. There should be plenty of plankton in their guts and plenty of all the essential vitamins and minerals that aren't in plankton in their flesh, skin, and bones.

So i should eat sardines instead of flax oil? Ive been eating both, not on the same day though.

Hmm... let's see.

Mediterranean food in general tends to be healthy, as evident by the good health of the general population that eats it. This includes...
- Olives and olive-oil (anticancer, Immune support, disinfectant, NSAID-like painkiller, lots of nutrients, good cholesterol)
- Thyme (anticancer, anti-microbial, anaesthetic, and seemingly nootropic)
- Wine (antioxidants, good for circulation in proper amounts, same goes for mood :)).
- Fish (omega oils, and everything else that fish is good for!)

I use flax oil and hemp oil too. Do you really want to eat fish 365 days per year?

My opinion is that true healthy eating is a result of lots of variety. A lot of fruits for example have unique compounds found only in that fruit. It seems popular right now to think, "Oh, THAT fruit is the healthiest.. or THIS type of bread is the healthiest" but really it all comes down to eating all of it together in smaller portions. I believe foods have a synergistic effect and that is what really provides the most health benefits.

Like an ideal day of eating for me would be.. cheerios with milk and banana, egg omelet with salsa/green peppers/onion for breakfast.. then in a couple hours have an apple/orange and blueberries.. then have a tuna/chicken/turkey/whatever meat sandwich with lettuce and tomatoes for lunch.. in a couple hours have a salad.. then for dinner salmon/halibut/beef/pork with another salad, some wine, and bread/potatoes/corn/starch.

Might sound like a lot of food but the key is small amounts of each to make up a larger overall meal and spreading the food out through the day.

How often do I eat like this? Never... maybe like once every couple weeks after I clean my entire house and just went to the grocery store and everything is just ready for me to do it all. Never lasts more than a day or two though.

Although I do know a couple people who do. They're all farmers/cooks though and spend all their time with food.

Not a food.... but a supplement I know of, and not to sound like a salesman, is MonaVie. It has 18 fruits in it and a shot of 2 oz in the morning and 2 oz at night gives you 13 servings of fruits and vegetables. It's main ingredient is the Acai berry which is the number one superfruit in the world and the ONLY fruit to be considered a food because it contains protein, though small amounts. It's pretty amazing actually, was found to cause a self destruct response in 86% of leukimia (SP?) cells by researchers in Florida. That MonaVie shit is the only stuff along with water and Gatorade I rock when I'm binging on cocaine. Keeps me ALIVE!

Lately ive been on a weight gain diet, im trying to do it the healthy way though, im off junk food, soft drinks and any other type of salty snack things. I only weigh 62kg so its not so bad to pack on some muscle mass.

a variety of foods is the best.
veggies, meat, dairy, a little bit of EVERYTHING

yeah there really is no ONE healthiest food. just like a plant, the body is not going to benefit from something it doesn't need even if it's lauded as the best source of antioxidants in the known universe. i prefer to think of healthy living as covering all my bases and getting the feel-good dose of all the vitamins and minerals i should be consuming.

when i think of "power foods" i think:

- almond
- pomegranate
- mango
- apple
- grape (wine totally counts in my book ;) )
- duck
- salmon (fresh only)
- kidney bean
- onion
- garlic
- ginger
- lemon
- brown rice
- olives
- mineral water (yes i know not technically a food)
- yogurt
quinoa... WOULD have made my list if i didn't hate it so much so fuck that
- carrot
- bamboo

most of that is stuff i'll get regularly. i like to eat well so i buy organic produce and ironically since i don't waste my money on frivolous shit and many prepared foods i only spend as much for organic foods as others spend on junk!

i choose those foods on what i perceive my dietary requirements to be, and what i find is that a lot of people underestimate their power which is why i listed them instead of choosing something ridiculous like GOJI berries or some shit picked at the top of a mountain, ziplocked by a monk and peddled for fifty bucks at the local yuppie-mart. ugh. hemp is another yuppie product, but i'd better not rant

just let it be known that apples aren't particularly healthy...while they are indeed fiberous, they are not particularly rich in micro-nutrients. Then again, I don't consider any fruit "unhealthy".
I say the heathiest "common" food might well be the green tea that you laud. :)

THANK you! I never liked apples nor did they ever feel particularly healthy to me.

My parents always pushed them down my throat, even these days!!

Funny enough, today I discovered one thing that (green) apples are useful for: added to a slushie of fresh blended Kiwi and Melon juice. This was already great but the apples added that touch that was missing.

I <3 fresh fruit slushies!

I am craving avocado right now. I should get some tomorrow...

Btw, I just noticed... most of the foods on Thujone's list are in fact Mediterranean staple. Duck (broiled to smithereens) and Salmon (raw) are my favourite meats.
