What's in my tar?

The city I live in its famous for having some of the lowest quality heroin in the US. It's all tar, but some of it is cut. What I know about it is that it comes from Mexico, and they basically just take raw opium and acetylate it. There might be a little more to it, but they don't isolate the morphine base first like they do in Europe, so there's still a lot of junk in it to begin with. When I'm lucky enough to get tar like that, I consider it a good day. But, most of the time that weak product has been further cut by low level dealers, sometimes more than once.

Does anyone know what some common cuts for BTH might be? I've heard of sugar being used, and I could swear I've gotten some that tastes like Coca-Cola, but I couldn't say for sure. I'd be interested in hearing other ideas, be they verified facts or just speculation. I'm in Northern California, BTW, maybe somebody else from around here has noticed the Coca-Cola flavor too?

Well, I am now certain that sugar is used as a cut. I just dissolved some supposedly uncut "raw" BTH in ice cold water and filtered it with a q-tip top (for snorting, for shooting I would have used a micron filter), and it left behind a small chunk of brown crystal. I smoked it just in case it was something good, but it was just sugar. Maybe molasses, maybe brown sugar, maybe even Coca-Cola, who knows?

I'm also interested to know if there are any cuts commonly used in BTH that will dissolve in ice cold water.

Does no one have any input on the matter?
