Just finished the first episode of that Jeremy Paxman series about WWI - Britain's Great War. Looks like it's gonna be pretty interesting. I don't really know much about WWI to be quite honest. It wasn't taught at school and I've never read up on it - just seen a few documentaries and that. This one seems to be focussing more on how things affected individuals, families and communities rather than purely the broad brushstrokes of battles and politics and stuff. It has that too but it's the details which I'm finding most interesting and engaging. Only the first episode so far but will be watching the rest cos it looks set to be really rather good.

Ha! No. I think you'll find the glancing at the watch was meant to show that the wives weren't on particularly good terms with their their husbands at the time given such an intimate situation. They were bored not comparing notes on mad skillz :D

Dunno really, she just seems to be totally up her own arse, and the handjob scene you referred to was a bit clinical. Mostly I think it's just her skinny legs and her annoying fuckin face :sus:

Edit: Just looked at her again - it's her fuckin big chin, and flat wide mouth - makes her look like a bloody wide mouthed frog, grrrrrrr! =D
 
I think you'll find that your feelings about the various characters change (probably several times) as the series goes on, FUBAR. It's very well-written and structured. One minute you sympathise with one set of characters, the next you've completely switched and can't stand them, then back the other way, rinse, repeat. It really was very well done the whole series. Thoroughly deserving of all the plaudits and popularity. Unlike Game of Thrones which is very watchable (at least early on) but I never quite got why it is so incredibly popular. Presumably, tits and arse combined with loadsa gore. Spartacus did all that stuff too but was far less po-faced about it and was enjoyable from beginning to end. GoT was just a chore last season. Hope it picks up cos it has potential but lawdy was that last series dull 8(
 
^ Shammy, that's where I'm at with GoT too. New and exciting turned to pretty meh soon after.
I fancy the pants off Pete Dinklage and there's other eye candy in the cast so Im sticking with it. Very watchable because it's plot heavy and that alone keeps my concentration, and because of the sheer amount of characters, of which some are awesome and I love character driven shows, but there's zero philosphical intergration in the plot or theme and I find it makes it totally lacking for me.

I agree. ive skimmed through the books as well, theyre over detailed dull babble. i love descriptive writing but over descriptiveness of not much shit happening is bollocks, too many different characters got on my tits as well

Apparently I am alone in finding Skylar a rather sympathetic character. At least taken as a whole over the whole series. That's not to say I'd wish to marry her, mind. She is cold and manipulative in places but given her situation... The compexity of the characters is one of the big strengths of BB, I'd say. I don't really dislike any of them as such. Although Walt is an arsehole and... can't recall her name but Skylar's sister who really did get right on my tits. Although she did have a certain charm in a more simplistic sense (ie I would).
 
I liked her right up towards the end of the whole thing. She was essentially trapped by the circumstances to be fair to her.

this changed when she turned ice cold on walt, probably through fear and shock when she found out what he was up to and some of the plots he'd pulled off like murdering Gus, and when she wished him dead even though her feelings were understandable she lost my empathy for her character at that point.
