What'd you do to get off your butt today? v. "That's not real exercise!"

I had sex all weekend. Great cardio workout. :D

As for today, no. I'm too depressed to do anything because of some crap that happened this morning, all I want to do today is go see my therapist and possibly get Starbucks with my best friend. And cry all day in between those activities. I'll get back into my regular workout routine tomorrow. But for today? Fuck it.

My regular workout routine, though, goes like this.
Monday: Toning - legs and butt
Tuesday: Toning - abs and arms
Wednesday: Heavy cardio of one of the following - some sort of sport, running, or aerobics.
Thursday: Light cardio - walking and yoga, Toning - abs and back
Friday: Toning - All (back, abs, arms, legs, and butt)
Saturday: Light cardio - walking and warm-up exercises
Sunday: Any workout video found On Demand - different each week

I also stretch every day beforehand.

I know my workout routine could be better and that I need to put a break day in there somewhere, but meh. I consider my light cardio days my break days for now!

my personal favorite kind of workout!

today was a very stressful day at work so I came home and walked long and far and ranted on my phone.... and then came home and did all kinds of sit ups, push ups, stretching, etc. I haven't been doing strength training whatsoever in at least a few months, so one of my major goals in the near future is going to be working on toning and muscle building. Now that I'm more settled in from the move I should have more free time for exercise, at last!

ran a bit, trying to sweat out this flu. got to about 5kms before the stabby stomach made me stop.

Shit, you feeling better today? What happened? Or is that a bit personal, no worries if so.

Keep that chin up! If it's any consolation, you've had 100% more sex than I have had all month.

If you're congested and feverish and really got the flu, you shouldn't do any exercise at all! You need to rest, drink LOADS of various teas (I go for redbush, green and chamomile) with honey and lemon juice, eat loads of vegetables and veg soup, sleep plentifully and have a hot bath. Lemon juice is a real WonderFruit when it comes to anything! Divide a whole fresh, organic lemon into warm water throughout the day for a great boost to the immune system.

thanks. this flu has been weird. not only has it struck me twice recently (i normally don't get sick), but it was entirely made up of cold sweats (fever), stomach cramps and headaches. my throat and sinuses were strangely untouched. the first bout went away when it hit the gym. i'm back to work today. lemsip max is a godsend, and i normally drink heaps of tea. also ate up some chewable vitamin c. not 100% yet but getting there.

Haven't done anything yet today, definitely want to go for a walk and stretch before interviewing and work this afternoon.

On a side note: I doubt my 100mile bike ride goal is going to happen. I did fifty a few times this summer, though. I'll save that goal for next year, now that I understand how much work goes into that.

L2R I can't quite tell if you are a Brit or American? I wasn't sure if they got Lemsip over in the states!

I just finished a bloody fantastic weights session. Really smashed all my personal 1RP bests and advanced well. Got a great high going on now post work-out/cold shower/milk,hemp and linseed, whey protein and oat smoothie.

4 sets Bent Row with 1 supersetted Pendlay Row set to failure
4 sets DB Fly's (far superior to any other chest exercise, I feel sorry for the guys still slugging out the wrist-crunching, non-chest-centric, ego-inflating "How much do you..." Bench Press)
3 sets Skullcrushers each supersetted with bicep curlz 4 da gurlz
4 sets Weighted Pushup
3 sets Weighted Chin ups
Some Military Press thrown in the haze of metal, grunting, sweat and tears
Weighted Crunches/Oblique Twists for the lulz. Deadlifts, Squats, Military Presses all take care of ab work for me, I've never needed to do any real ab work in order to get dem abz. Blessing innit bruv.
Calves and the Adonis belt are the 2 most elusively difficult things to "acquire" in resistance training, almost entirely genetic, which I thank God for each day in blessing me with!

Just off to the gym - Leg workout and a 1 hour run at a heart rate of around 170. Burn a good 1800 calories a session! Feels nice to be back at the gym after taking 3 weeks off (so many other stuff to attend to, had no spare time).

Yeahhhh, I was thinking earlier this week about how my goal of doing 50 miles in a day (to and from school) probably won't happen this year. There is always next year though! Hope your interview went well! <3

Haven't done anything today. Well, aside from walking up and down five flights of stairs numerous times--18 flights up and 18 down by my guestimates. That's gotta count for something.

I believe it went well, but only time (the end of next week) will tell.

According to this link, my calculations tell me that each flight of stairs takes probably 20 seconds, or 1/3 of a minute. In a minute, your body would burn 7.8 kCal (ignore where it says ".18 kCal per pound of bodyweight, that is not correctly calculated). Therefore, for each flight, your body burns 2.6 kCal (I won't outright share your weight with the interwebs, but I'm sure people can figure it out anyway).

Multiply this by your 18 flights up, and you've burned 46.8 kCal going up. If I assume you burn half the calories coming down those flights (I'm no scientist, it's assumption based only), then you also burned 23.4 kCal descending the stairs. So you burned 70.2 kCal going up and down the stairs today.

In a year, if you were to do this twice a week, you would burn 7,300.8 kCal, the equivalent of two pounds of bodyweight! :D

...

Sorry, I miss doing math.

attempt4, fantastic work yesterday mate (i'm australian). actually, during my lunch hour i hit my lats, back and biceps nice and fiercely. today i'll be smashing my chest, shoulder and triceps. for my chest i use barbells, dumbells as well as the burning brilliance of chest focuses pully machines.

tbh. i don't know the names of most of my workout methods. i just pay attention to my progress and try to make sure i do a little more each time.

Haha, no problem. :P I appreciate the math done for me. And I do do this twice a week, though typically it's only ten flights or so each day--But in five more weeks, it'll be back to the elevators at ECMC. 8)

Annnd just to add on to yesterday's post, I ended up taking all the dogs for walks. Went about a mile with both bigger dogs and about a quarter mile with the small one. So, 2 miles walked in addition to burning those 70 calories on the stairs. :P

That's fine! That's all you need to do, really :) Unless you want to get built like a brick shithouse, you don't really need to know any fancy names of this and that.

The only things that matter in the gym are:

You never give up.
You try your damnedest (this is basically the same as number 1 isn't it? Oh well, let's leave it for now).
You execute each lift with flawless form.

What exactly are your goals in the gym? Putting on muscle? Losing fat?

funny, you stumped me with that question. At first i was like muscle, yeah. But then i was like nah fat, but then i realised i hadn't thought about it in a long time. Pondered for a quiet moment, and to be honest i have no ultimate goal with this, and haven't in a long time. I love the activity, the pain (both the burn and the sore), and especially the feeling of being stronger, lighter, running long distances or short sprints, breathing like a sponge, walking on my toes and floating up stairs.

Hahaha that's great man!

You just like being generally fit, then? It's such a great feeling. The hardest part is turning yourself round to getting in the habit, but it doesn't take long to get bitten by the bug!

A lot of people find it a bit better to have a specific goal to work towards, it keeps them in check and motivated and whatnot, but whatever works for you is best!

I hate gyms though...really hate them. I have all my equipment in my garage and lift on my own which is way better for me. I focus a lot better, dont use equipment (only raw metal... machinery and equipment takes away much of the resistance and reduces your core strength's role in many lifts, it may be fun to use a nice machine, but it detracts from the maximum potential for gain in each lift) nor do I have to wait for anything, plus I get to choose my own music and best of all IT'S FREE!

Happy lifting!

Exactly how I feel. I don't consider the energy I exert in my daily routine as exercise. Lifting things, walking, climbing stair, cleaning.
Exercise is what I do to challenge my body and promote better health. I want to reduce my risk of disease and live happy.

This works for me to re-energize my committment to my well being. My latest goal is to trail run 6.2 miles (10K) in 60m minutes by April 2012 for the marathon. I started running in June.
