Whatcha Drinking? v. Drunk Driver: "Don't make me stupid"

Few beers in the pub then back to a mates for pizza and a BOX of wine. Apparently 4 litres in this box but it was suspiciously small and we drank it so quick without being too drunk that I reckon it was a scam, cost £20 too. I was up for buying 3 bottles of cheapo wine instead and I reckon we would have gotten more to drink.

Just opened a can of merrydown. It = 3.3 units

1 can of 440ml Merrydown 7.5% is 3.3

I shall be drinking 4ish this evening most probably

I would like to know how they came up with the daily alcohol recomended limits, if its based on anything scientific?
I know the 5 a day thing is bullshit cause its different in many countries , therefore not really relaible

I just took a bottle of Wolf Blass Yellow Label Shiraz back to ASDA.

I haven't tried their Shiraz before, I've drunk a lot of their cab. sauv. in the past with success but I couldn't drink this. It wasn't corked, because it's a screw top. I don't know what was wrong with it, I think it tasted slightly vinegary, and had an odd powdery texture, and when I listened to the glass it seemed to have very slight effervescence.

I hate it when there's something wrong the wine but I can't explain exactly what! I know sometimes if I'm ill wine can taste funny but I'm not ill.

Anyway, ASDA took it back without argument, they asked me what was wrong and I just said I didn't know exactly but I couldn't drink it. As I walked away I realised I should just have said "it's bowfin'".

Got a bottle of Campo Viejo to replace it. Somehow, every bottle of Campo Viejo I've ever bought has been perfect. Their quality control is shit hot, and the wine is great.

I think someone involved at the BMA basically admitted that the figures were plucked out of thin air.

At the end of the day, it's all just luck of the genes - some people can drink ridiculous amounts all their lives with no problems, whilst some poor sods can get cirrhosis off just a couple of pints a night.

.

I've had similar bad experiences with the yellow label stuff recently, knock. I remember it being pretty tasty, but always pricey, a few years ago. Now it seems to be reduced everywhere and minging.

Fucking great wine.

Have you tried Albali? Theiir reservas are great, the crianzas are a bit hit and miss though.

supermarkets and wine merchants, you can usually find the reservas for about 6 quid. Spanish again, if you like the Campo Viejo, I'm confident you'd like Albali Reserva...very smooth, vanilla-like, but heavy and rich too...

EDIT>>>>I started drinking it when I was working in Madrid..the fact that this, and Campo Viejo are also popular in Spain is testament to their quality. ;)
