What You Listening To You Crazy FOOOOOO!!!

Currently enjoying the smooth stylings of the lovely Example - Me and Mandy.

If you like rap/electro/garage you should look him up.

^ Its cool leecie, he sounds a bit like Dizzy Rascal :)

Would you call Dizzy rap/electro/garage genre also??

Elliott has worked with Dizzee Rascal in the past. His producer is Rusher and he has worked with Calvin Harris amongst others on his new album. (He's my friends brother - I hung out with him yesterday)

I don't know what I would call Dizzee, but I guess it's similar - UK Garage maybe? I love that shit!

Oh, and can I recommend looking up Yo Majesty. I saw them yesterday at Field Day - 2 lesbian christian black chicks from Florida and one of them took her top off during their set. That's her 'thing' apparently. Crazy rap.

Dizzee Rascal is grime. Well, his earlier stuff was.

After UK Garage (which was mainly 2-step garage at that point) kinda died in the arse around the beginning of the 00s due to oversaturation, people took elements of dancehall and dub and made grime.

Dizzee Rascal - I Luv U
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=a8G8WrP4Uig

Best example above. Still Dizzee's best.

Afterwards, dubstep came out of grime with a heavier emphasis on dub rhythm. A lot more instrumental.

Burial - Archangel
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=9hI4bSCy9iE

Cuts up a Ray-J song from a while back to make it unrecognisable. Best track of 2007 across any genre, it sounds like true depressing ending credits with the murkiest bass i've ever heard.

David Archuleta - Crush
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=e8phK_YIRNs

Greatest pop song of 2008?
All signs point to yes.

Why? Because the entire effort is just so ... effortless. It sounds so restrained and controlled like all good pop music should be, with the transition from verse to chorus being seamless. Then again, it's not really a surprise that it comes from the same songwriters who penned Incomplete by the Backstreet Boys.

The only downside? There's no way a voice like that should be coming from a kid that looks like David Archuleta. Video is laaaaaughs.

Jawbreaker - Jet Black
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=QXULTfF8lr8 (Don't mind the title and photos, it really is the song!)

Blake Schwarzenbach has written the two most depressing songs I've ever heard; this track and I Typed For Miles by Jets to Brazil. Jawbreaker are easily one of the most influential punk bands of the 90s, especially within early 00s emo.

A plodding bassline in the background with droning guitars coupled with Blake's raspy unmelodic voice realising a relationship beyond repair.

This is the cure: the same as the symptom.
Simple and pure: break to keep fixing.
Patiently nurse, patient and nurse.
This is the part I wouldn't show you.
The part where you say, "I don't even know you."
This is your cue.
Be glad it's through.

^

That sounds pretty good preacha i might have to check it out.

Currently listening to The Cure - Pornography with a bottle of red wine on a cool summer's night.

INXS - Never tear us apart

This one goes out to katmeow, hoptis and Raz for their stirring rendition the other night. (Sing it with me now.)

We could live
For a thousand years
But if I hurt you
Id make wine from your tears

I told you
That we could fly
cause we all have wings
But some of us dont know why

I
I was standing
You were there
Two worlds collided
And they could never ever tear us apart

Dirty Boyz - Kingsgrove
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=WCmFznUh4aE

An Aussie hip-hop ode to the hardest of Sydney's train stations, Kingsgrove.
I haven't laughed this hard in ages.

An excerpt.

Kingsgrove, splityasplitya, splityasplitya
Kingsgrove, getchagetcha, getchagetcha

Apparently there's "nothing like fucking a bitch from KINGSGROVE"
Is anyone on Bluelight able to verify these claims?

I refute those claims. Seriously. Kingsgrove is a hole. However, that song might have come about because there is a catholic girls high school next to aforementioned station (St. Ursulas College Kingsgrove...initials S.U.C.K.)

From my folder of favourite tracks from last year.

T-Pain ft. Justin Timberlake - Can't Believe It (Remix)
http://aimt.us/blog/2008/11/8/t-pain-ft-justin-timberlake-cant-believe-it-remix.html

This is how a remix is done.
T-Pain ditches Lil Wayne in favour of some Justin Timberlake vocals wrung through the vocaliser. A slow jam with excellent harmonies; it's a remix that feels more like a collaboration. More importantly, it's how the song should have sounded in the first place.

I have had 808s & Heartbreak - Kanye West on repeat all morning. I am really surprised that I like this album because I think Kanye is a dickhead and don't normally like his stuff. It does get a little repetitive, but I could listen to Love Lockdown over and over and not get bored.

Cibo Matto - King Of Silence
http://au.youtube.com/watch?v=4Ky2mep3auc

The album Stereotype A by Cibo Matto chills me out no matter how badly i'm raging.

The group consisted of two Japanese ex-pats on vocals and DJ duties as well as various others including Sean Lennon on the bass. The vocals are incredibly FOBish, but IT'S THE CIBO MATTO CHARM!

Plus I'm a sucker for saxophones.

For a reference point, the female vocalist is also the female vocalist in Gorillaz.

Still, There Are Many More Track... I Didn't Check The Play-L. It Could Go Anywhere.

When a "tight friend's" Sista
found out
about my issue,
she made me a coupla CD's
an' cased 'em in a Gold Box wif
'Forever Music'

on the front.

It's mostly dance.
I'm not really in the mood for it.
But I'm in the mood fo' appreciatink.

& Effort.

Thx "Bullets."

Dump - That Skinny Motherfucker with the High Voice (2000)

Been really digging this album i discovered completely at random. It's the singer from Yo La Tengo's solo project.

It's a Prince cover album, done in the Yo La Tengo shoegaze/lo-fi style and i love it, in particular his dreamy cover of Prince's upbeat 1999.
