P.S. listen to the songs "bonehead" or "speedball" to get a taste, and then to the song "latin quarter" to see how fucking much these guys are good at playing.
Just started watching the Made Of Stone documentary but didnt make it past this track, it's so long since I'd heard it I'd forgotten how good it is, the introduction is amazing; all psychedelic swirls and stuff I'd never noticed before (possibly cos ive only just got my decent headphones working again 8(). You were right all along about these FG. I had forgotten them. How could I.
"we just wanted to break Manchester, be the biggest band on our street." I think they just about fulfilled that ambition. :D Just by word of mouth they went from being a cult Manchester band to selling out a 7,000 capacity venue in London virtually overnight. Soon they were top of everything, before it all started turning to shit in the next breath, in the documentary.
I remember being blown away when i first heard this album, it was a very big deal, i had to go all the way to fucking Shrewsbury to buy it , the other passengers on the train must have thought i was nuts on the return journey, with my Walkman on, ha. ....
It's proper arm-hair-raising, isn't it. Would have loved to have been old enough to see them live in their prime. Had the chance to see the re-union gig the other year, but it wouldn't have been the same - clearly just a gritted teeth, financial venture, given the acrimonious split.
