Yeah but you're forgetting that was mainstream in 1996 ;) I'm not sure if I agree with the commonly-held opinion that new hiphop is shit. Granted it had a golden era in the mid 80s through to the mid 90s but there's still some pretty decent music out there, different but not necessarily bad, and not all underground either.
