This is a true story of the Royal Innisgillan Dragoons from Ireland , a calvary regiment garrisoned in Fife,Scotland in the 1800's. The Captain fell in love with a chambermaid named Peggy. He died of a broken heart when she refused to marry him and leave Scotland.

Love that tune. So many great renditions of it, by many different artists, over the years. Tommy Makem always made the song when they did Scottish tunes.

Yeah, Tommy made that tune his own. I would argue that it's an Irish / Scottish tune, but then I would. :D

That's definitely my favourite rendition of it though, even though it's so bloody martial. And it's only ever made me think of one girl. One who will make me die of a broken heart in a similar way.

I almost fucked it up and used her real name, because the number of syllables is the same.
