I have to defend Gertrude - okay, so you don't really find a lot of people being born today being named that, but my Grandmothers name is Gertrude, and she is a truly wonderful woman, despite the seeming unpopularity of the name in this thread. :p :D

The baby names thread got me thinking about bad names for children.

For instance, I once worked with this shy asian girl named Kandi. Yep. All I could think of was "stripper!" Can't have been good for her career prospects.

A friend of mine's father insisted on naming him Tibor (yes, like on the simpsons). He only relented under extreme duress.

There was the Hogg family in texas, which named a daugher Ima (I kid you not, I saw it in one of those bizarre facts books).

I've also heard of girls named Gertrude and boys named Percy and Quincy. Poor kids.

So, what names do you consider most awful? Got any amusing stories?

i know many many many guys named tibor. It is a very popular name in Hungary (The creators of simpsons are also hungarian) Its not nice to make fun of other cultures. Every other country probably has 'weird' names that we can't pronounce but its not a big deal. Its called diversity.

the one thing i can't understand is why someone would want to name their kid Ashley. How uncreative. I wouldn't want my kid to be an Ashley K. so she could stand out from Ashley ). Ashley T. Ashley P. Ashley D and Ashley W. and maybe the adventurous Ash.

:X :(

shithead.

romeo
beyonce
etc.

I think i'll name one of my kids Miles. thats a class name.

<-ooooooo 420th post
Here, what the fuck is 420 anyway???.

:( All of my names have been mentioned in this thread!

I wouldn't name a kid candy, or candi, or any other variation, unless of course they were diabetic.

No names that are just traits I'd like my kids to grow up with either, such as hope, charity, faith, etc.

Anything else is cool as long as it's not a current trend. It'd be stupid for them to go to school along with a whole load of other kids with the exact same name!

My son is going to be called Alif though. I can't remember the other names my girl came up with right now, but they were all quite cool... %)

I wouldn't name my kid a popular name, like jennifer, sarah, etc.

I also hate those fat chick names, like gloria. I know this sounds stupid, but don't you know certain names that ONLY fat chicks have???? I don't know any glorias who are skinny.

I also hate those old folks names, like blanche, rose, eileen, etc.

Hey now! 8)

I love italian names but I will NEVER name my kids Carmine, Paulie, Silvio or Vito 8( (altho I did love the name Vittorio or Vitolo...not anymore!)

anything that they'll always have to spell or pronounce for people, or a name that is easy to make jokes about.

also, nothing too popular or tendy, like madison or aidan, or a last name for a first name.
