What would you NOT name your kid?

The baby names thread got me thinking about bad names for children.

For instance, I once worked with this shy asian girl named Kandi. Yep. All I could think of was "stripper!" Can't have been good for her career prospects.

A friend of mine's father insisted on naming him Tibor (yes, like on the simpsons). He only relented under extreme duress.

There was the Hogg family in texas, which named a daugher Ima (I kid you not, I saw it in one of those bizarre facts books).

I've also heard of girls named Gertrude and boys named Percy and Quincy. Poor kids.

So, what names do you consider most awful? Got any amusing stories?

ahaha good thread!!

I whould NEVER name my kids names like, Tait (reminds me of tit) hate the name
Trent, Frank, Molly,Tessa,Virginia,Lucy,Gaby,Jeniffer,Melissa,Pady,Sara hate the names SARA so much Daniel Dom or Dominique Monique and Doris

thats all i can think of right now.

Every name in the world that I don't call my kid.. hehe ;)

My pet hate name is Dierdre (don't know how it's spelt - don't particulary care). Sorry if there's someone called Dierdre browsing this thread...

Agreed on all parts...

Also, I hate names like Crystal and Amber-- might as well name the fxcking kid Glass or Treesap.. WTF? No offense to anyone with those names... :X

Nothing too trendy, too soap opera or associated in any manner with any of my exes. One of my exes has a son named Blake and it's ruined that name that I used to love forever. Also, nothing too dated or with an annoying nickname, or anything too difficult to spell.

Julie. I hated a Julie with a passion in my teens. Ditto Jo. (Sorry any Julie's or Jo's out there)

I don't think you can name your baby something you have a bad association with.

I'm also not keen on either extremes of names: plain ones (Mary, Kate, Jane) or ridiculous ones spelt weirdly like Jesika, Tiffanie, Rebekah... it's just a wee bit too pretentious for moi.

i have yet to meet anyone named "myfwyny"..and i strongly agree that i would never name my kids that.. "jayden" sounds a bit jayded too...i would also avoid names that have recently changed genders.. ie "madison" as a female name or "kimberly" as a male name...but if there was one name to avoid like the proverbial plague..it would have to be "condoleeza" (WTF does that name mean..anyway)...

We had an asian guy at school named wai hung=D That was funny shit!

I wanted to call my son Felix but his initials would have been FC and my boyfriends family uses that as an abbreiviation for fat c*nt (kinda a bad taste long running joke), so unless i ever end up with a different last namer, i'll have to let that one go...

Some old singer called his kids Dweezel and Moon Unit - I couldnt believe you could do that to your kids! So thats what i named my fish

For boys I would try to avoid all of the common christian names like Michael, David, James, Andrew etc. They are all great names but I would want something a bit more individual for a child. I don't want the poor kid going to school and meeting a bunch of other Michaels, Davids, James etc.

For girls I don't like Jenny. I never met a nice Jenny. Maybe a Bluelighter will prove me wrong on that one :)

Also Morag. I knew a girl in school who had this name I thought it was the most fucked up thing I ever heard. Sounds awful.

A.) that "old singer" is Frank Zappa.
B.) I know a guy named "Ho"
