what would cause DPT HCL powder to be a redish orange color?

assuming the purity is what the vendor has said 98.9, is this a major impurity or does DPT sometimes have this color from a non cleaned synth? this is the first tryptamine ive seen with this coloration. please chime in thankyou
 
i dont have any experience with DPT, but i do with DMT and i have come across plenty of DMT that looks exactly the way you described.

test it?

It does not take much of an impurity to alter the appearance of a chemical, a small fraction of a percent can alter the colour of a compound. So at the purity given its reasonable that it is not a pure white compound. You can do some snooping to figure out how to remove this impurity from what you have by washing the compound with a solvent to bring either the DPT or the impurity into solution and then using filtration to separate the two.
 
Maybe N-oxidation. I think synthetic DMT can turn from white to yellow even though it obviously doesn't contain yellow/orange plant oils and other DMT-containing plant residues. However this color change is pretty slight.
I believe brown and purple DPT are or have been available (mine is brown), I have no idea what that is all about though. Stronger discolorations are indeed probably manufacture impurities.
 
I've seen the funky waxy purple DPT....that stuff was choice! Seemed pretty damn potent based on the waxy, yet crystalline formation, of what I had...and also that I am comparing 30mg smoked to when I take 30mg DPT in the muscle anyway...and pretty sure it was darn pure. Greater than 90%

I mean with DMT extract I would be moderately satisfied I guess but with synthetics I would expect more...
Anyway what do you base the number on? Hearsay, vendor claims, or TLC maybe? :)
 
Me? Oh that 90% was a number I pulled out of the air. If the labwork provided by the source was to be believed (and I do), the purple DPT was definitley purer than 90% I just dont remember what it was. This DPT was from 2003, and was not from a Chinese lab, not that the Chicoms guys can't have good, pure compounds....they can, I just mean this DPT came from a not so public, password protected 'vendor' back in the day, a rather historical one...who was known for being the real deal, never mixed up compounds, did manage to consistently provide rare, very pure rarieites (independently confirmed to be authentic and pure..in some cases by the good doc himself...along with things that I suspect came from biosynth like AMT, DPT hcl, DiPT, and other things that were not cost effective for him to make himself. He also was not targeted by 'webtryp'.

This was the guy who first brought 4-AcO-DIPT, methylone, and 2C-I to the early, fledgling "RC" market. And yea, I am comparing my memory of that purple DPT with my DMT extracting experience (I got really clever with things and am intimately familiar with all shapes and shades of DMT crystal, freebase, fumarate, etc and for sure got greater than 95% purity when I tried that hard (not worth it, the red was just fine). You are right...DMT is not DPT.
