What would be the perfect green smoothy?

If I were to make a green smoothy (meaning it contains fruit and vegetables) with the goal in mind that it should have as many different nutrients as possible, what should I put in the smoothy?

I'm guessing spinach is a good choice for the vegetable part and every kind of berry I could possibly find as the fruit part.
However, maybe there are better super vegetables and super fruits that I don't know about.

[Additional info: I am a student that wants to eat healthy, but has very little time to prepare healthy food. So just throwing some fruits and vegetables in the blender is the easiest way to go to get my vitamins and minerals and anti-oxidants and stuff like that. But I want to know what is the most "complete" smoothy I can make so I can make the same one every day and don't have to worry that I'll get a shortage of a particular vitamin or mineral]

The best thing you can do is not make the same one every day. You should rotate through all of the seasonal fruits and veggies available to you so that in a given week or month you have eaten all of them. This is the best way of getting a complete nutritional profile. Also, a plant is only as good as the soil it was grown in. Try to find a small patch of dirt to grow your own greens. If you can't do this then do your best to buy from farmers who use compost (preferably) or manure as fertilizers and who do not spray. If you can't do this either, make sure to buy organic as there are restrictions on they types of fertilizers they can use.

In addition to rotating through all of the seasonal plants, you can buy a large variety of dried, imported, raw "super foods". I would recommend doing this but others think it is not necessary and is a rip-off. Goji, cacao, maca, spirulina, aloe, and blue-green algae are some of my favorites. You can also get a green powder to mix into water. I use Vitamineral Green and love it. Also, if you don't already have one and can afford it, get a Vitamix or Blendtec high powered blender. They make green smoothies MUCH better.

Good Luck! green smoothies kick ass.

I've been meaning to incorporate kale into my smoothie regimen. Chlorella has many health benefits as well.

I'm definitely a fan of Mehm's suggestion of using the Green Powders available at local vitamin and health food stores. This would make it easier to get your smoothie fix if you have a busy lifestyle

In all seriousness, add jello to your smoothies. I am a vegetarian and the gelatin is a great source of protein.

I hope you're trolling, most vegos I know, including myself don't consider gelatine vegetarian, mainly cos it's made from the collagen from inside an animal's skin and bones. Just saying.

KNOX jello is vegetarian. I'm not a vegan, I'm a vegetarian yo.

Do you drink beer? You know most beer isn't strictly "vegetarian", right?

Actually no, i don't drink beer. Also I drink specific vegan wines before you ask.

Just so you know where I'm coming from, I don't consider anything that is made from a dead animal vegetarian eg. meat products, gelatine, etc., and cutting out anything that an animal produces to be vegan, eg. honey and eggs. But yeah I realise everyone's definition can be different.

^ I agree with you Aislinnna; I'm vegetarian but don't consume products with gelatine or fined with isinglass. Has to be trolling right? I mean if that brand of jelly was made using agar-agar or something similar then he wouldn't have made the gelatine-protein comment O_o

Anyway; back on topic I used to like banana/raw egg/honey/spirulina/milk/ice smoothies (with optional natural yogurt, cinnamon, etc). Not perfect in terms of nutrients but definitely tasty. I find throwing in some ice cubes helps to really aerate the smoothy without making it dense. I am looking for some good vegan smoothie or juice combination ideas at the moment myself so fire away guys and gals, I need inspiration! :)

I put a whole lost of spinach into mine, and I freeze strawberries to thicken it up, kinda works like yoghurt. Banana also goes great, and mint and lemon juice, and chuck in a pear or apple.
