What will the future of drugs look like?

This thread is an open discussion on what you think the future of drugs will look like, or what you would like to see. For example, what will drug policy and prohibition look like 30-50 years from now? What kind of new technologies will be available to help us get high? Things I would like to see:

Black Market transdermal systems for amphetamines and opiates. Maybe a new amphetamine that is active at lower dosages so this kind of thing would be practical.

Neroin- The drug from the movie "Minority Report". I loved the drug delivery system they are envisioning. It would have the rush of shooting heroin, but without the problems associated with it. Further, you wouldnt have the drug loss you would in smoking

Implanted plastic veins- You could shoot into a plastic or other material vein that would be impervious to being destroyed like a regular vein, and would be safer on your body.

Synthetic Opiates with a half life like methadone, but with the euphoric potential of oxycodone or heroin.

Narcaine implants that would only activate at the onset of an overdose



There are other things I can think of too, but I'll turn it to the forum.
 
I suspect that the more potent fentanyl analogues such as carfentanyl will replace the majority of opiates on the black market because of their potency and ease of manufacturing. Carfentanyl will induce a heavy nod in nanogram doses, and can be easily made by a crew of backwoods yokels with hazmat suits.
 
As far as policy is concerned, I'd like to think that marijuana prohibition is on its way out, since public opinion polls are growing more and more in favor of decriminalzation and legalization. As far as other drugs go, well, they'll have to wait their turn in line, I guess.
 
In the very near future:

- No more health-food stores (like GNC).. that, or they become very much like pharmacies.

- Tighter marijuana laws

- Research Chemicals V.2 (or 3, is it? now?)

- Resurgance of LSD.

In the not-so-near-but-not-so-far future:

- Methamphetamine is extinct due to outlawing of precursours

- Cocaine is alive and well

- MD(M)A is getting more and more difficult to find (like LSD now) and "ecstasy" now unpopular because it is usually just piperazines.

- Heroin is the same as it is today.

- As roger mentioned, fentanyl analogues on the street.

- Perhaps, one of the "research chemicals" catches on and becomes a popular streer drug. Most likely if it is an easily synthesized opioid or stimulant.

-Some legal drugs will be made illegal.
-Or conversely, all drugs will be made legal (more down the road in the future)
 
I think that marijuana laws will basicly stay the same due to the fact that noone(in the government) wants to step up and take a firm stance on reform.
 
Marijuana still illegal, but with more debate about it.

Some European countries + Canada possibly making drugs legal and regulating them.

LSD comes back to life

Ecstasy is still in action, but pills are becoming worse and worse (uber-cut)

Opiates are gone short of heroin which is sitll alive and well

Meth increases in popularity (even more)

Well, that depends...

THE GOOD FUTURE:
- rapid cease in the consumption of all forms of amphetamines
- rise in the price of cocaine due to crop shortages
- more SERIOUS research into the (side) effects of drugs
- decriminalization, legalization, regulation (... taxation!)
- less retarded stereotypes against drug users
- hallucinogenics will become the fashion drug again
- people will learn how to use drugs properly (no E every weekends, no meth binges, etc etc)
- rehab will be a two minute deal, just one little operation and you'll become immune to whatever drug you want
- psychedelics will start being used in psychological treatment
- they'll invent some kind of bug that eats opium poppies, meaning a 90% production drop in Afghanistan

THE BAD FUTURE:
- meth overtakes weed as drug of choice, due to incessant supply & lower prices
- worse drug laws (can't even imagine it ... 10 years for a joint or so)
- LSD will practically be off the market, with only 2 or 3 batches (x1000 hits) being made yearly (it just doesn't give enough profits)
- more efficient drug testing ("Sir it appears you smoked a joint 7 years ago at a party, we think you won't be suitable for this job")
- more drug testing (basically, your girlfriend's father will have the right to demand a drug test from you due to some weird SAVE-THE-YOUTH law)
- cops will invent better (electronic) smelling devices that'll make smuggling drugs absolutely impossible
- Patriot Act III: You have the right to shoot anyone you suspect of having taken drugs
- Patriot Act IV: You will go to jail if you don't shoot someone you've seen doing drugs
- a whisky-chugging, pot-smoking cokehead for President of the States ( 8) )
- drug propaganda will become more and more surreal & ridiculous (computer animated images of Hitler & Stalin sharing a joint)
- what the others said about some cheaper, easy to manufacture synthetic opiate (the downer response to homemade meth)
- rise in the use of prescription drugs
- increasingly younger age to start taking drugs
- the invention of Swank! (10 times more addictive than marijuana!)
- PCP comeback & exile from the ghetto
- I won't have any acid left... :(

 
- I expect children will be diagnosed with psychological disorders and given anti-depressants/stimulants a few moments after leaving the womb.

- Various synthetic opioids with, fortunately no issue of tolerance, but unfortunately no euphoria or any recreational potential.

- Weed becomes legal, sold over the counter. This leads to a group composed of the elderly, religious fanatics and concerned parents burning weed stores and drug users in protest.

- Meth spreads over the world and becomes the number one drug of choice. Cheap and effective.

- "Just say no... Or be shot."

- What with everyone becoming completely withdrawn, psychotic and paranoid due to the meth, and also the gangs of anti-drug rangers patrolling the streets, we're all in constant fear for our lives. Noone leaves their houses or communicates over the Internet or telephone unless using complex codes that noone can even understand.

- Meth eventually finds its way into the military, and due to rampant paranoia, a world war starts. Thousands of missiles launch into the sky (as a preemptive strike of course), only to come down again. Burning continents are swallowed beneath the boiling oceans as spears of nuclear fire rain from the skies. Life is extinguished from the planet.

So enjoy it while you can. 8(
 
Interesting topic

I saw a BBC docu, a while ago, about a possible legalisation of dope: and they came with a very interesting point.

If you legalize drugs, and add taxes, big pharmacy companies will find out there is a real booming business in new drugs...so the huge companies, with million dollars of investing money and massive labs, start to look for and produce newer / better / heathier drugs... cause that's big money %)

So in that case there will be a nice future for us BL'ers

but when I stop dreaming, and try to see the real future,
I think, In Europe, the law will get softer and softer... and next to Weed, things like mdma and acid get legal / tolarated. Only real addicting drugs like cocaine and heroine will stay illegal.

i will bet that marijuana will be decriminalized in the majority of the USA and from there the issue of legalization loses support because no one really gets in trouble from pot

Myanmar-I think eventually if the whole western world tolerates drugs than the US would have too. The easy of smuggling with make drugs in America cheaper, safer, and more acceptable and they would have to bow to some extent.
 
After a short period of prohibition of every known addictive/ reward inducing drug, the US will finally loosen up on their drug laws after many people get killed trying to smuggle things in.
 
well, chances are some new drug, or perhaps a current, newer, lesser-known drug will become extremely popular, what this would be I have no idea. Either it will be a new highly addictive substance which will follow in line with crack and meth, or perhaps a new more recreational drug, either a club drug, a new ecstacy or phsycadelic, some drugs might go out of fashion, then come back again. Probly no legalization, perhaps more decriminalization of marijuana, but thats it. Maybe DXM and salvia scheduled

Is someone sensing a tiny bit of irony? ::as the smoke from the burning weed building consumes the city...::
 
- Some clever stoners, in retaliation to the rioting gang of pensioners and soft headed fools who take the law into their own hands, decide to erect gigantic domes to trap the smoke from burning marijuana, and effectively hotbox several major cities in the US. Unfortunately they decide to do this after pizza, and the idea is lost forever amongst giggles and blistered fingers after hours of furious PS2 play.

But seriously, the 'war on drugs' is like the age old war between good and evil, in that it can never be settled. It can't be won, and neither side can lose; drug users will continue to use drugs with little regard to what happens, and the government will never admit that it can't stop people from being human, no matter how many ridiculous anti-drug adverts have to be made, DARE t-shirts have to be printed and how many billions and billions of dollars have to be wasted.

Prohibition will be around for a long time, and even if drugs become legal, it won't change a lot of opinions about them unless most people really are sheep in disguise. On the other hand, drugs will also be around for a long time.
 
By the year 2015 laws have become so out-of-mind and out-of-touch that people have sturred into communities of gangs or military bands of local rebels. An all-out world war comes to be and its everyman for themselves. After the war people become peaceful again. Lots of bledshed. Communities around the globe become more localized. Food is again grown & eaten locally. Farms are booming. Economy is... well, different. Pre-war ~2015 if you couldn't fire a pistol or shoot of a 12 gauge round, you're pretty much screwed. Weapons go hand-in-hand with the bible, however, assault & chemical weapons are pretty much outlawed and mutual understandings prevail. Drugs are viewed softer in the public eye and become more spiritual overall. Medicinal values become more understood & learned/practiced. Localized healthcare in each community. A government for the people, really becomes the people. We get a taste of freedom... for now.
