U god is one of the lesser known Wu Family members & was actually in Prison when they 1st came through n totally smashed Hip Hop .

Since then 2001 debut "Golden Arms Redemption" he has putting out a steady amount of stuff but this year he cracked it .
This album contains fine production with Rza amongst , Mathematics & Leaf DOG amongst many other known People.

It's the imagery that it is created n the glimpses he give u in to ois childhood that really make this a special LP i am still listening after at least 50 x .

I recommend anyone give it at least a few songs maybe star with above this line kinda poignant

So misunderstood
Let her speak
The new voice in the hood, never had to hide
Always had the heart keep it simple and sharp
And I land on the sharks for the

Fame

The imagery of Ny is pretty easy to with although if u listen deeper there are deeper metaphor .

So what did you rate ?

Hmm... dunno really. Have noticed I almost never listen to full albums these days. I really should get back into the habit. Large music collection + shuffle button = musical laziness. I know I have acquired/listened to albums released last year but buggered if I can think of one of the top of me head... and there's a reasonable chance I wouldn't have actually gotten around to listening to the whole thing anyway :!

Thread is not a total washout for me though as I'd noticed you pimpin' that U-God album for a while now, Brimzini, and meant to give it a bash. Annoyingly I'm just outta weed but may give it a go anyway ;)

Immunity by Jon Hopkins was a cracker.

Franz Ferdinand's new album, Right Thoughts Right Words Right Action was also really surprisingly good.

And of course Babyshambles ;) Although it's not a particularly special release, it's nice to see something new from Pete.

Who's released an album this year that I should know about? Present company excepted. Must keep track of this thread so I can pretend I still know what's hep with the kewl katz. Perhaps.

*begins compiling list of planned acquisitions*

Have you checked out the new Babyshambles album, Shambles? What do you think of it?

Cheers for the tips Albion, I may check some of those out. Fucking Virgin Broadband is a bastard allthough it is the most reliable and fastest ISP ive ever had it seems to have some copyright thing built into it which blocks many / all torrent files working. Ive got so used to downloading albums now, in a kind of try before you buy, or try before you go and see live way. Its very rare i buy CDs. This has partly accounted for my lack of new music in 2013. Tbh ive allready got so much music ive allready downloaded and im just catching up with that. If i hear something i like on the TV I'll just find it on youtube to listen to again.

I've not actually. And I should have cos I know you PM'd me in relation to it around the time but have vague memories of being somewhat distant, detached and distracted at the time... much of the time since too actually. Will be on my planned acquisitions list for sure cos I've not really been keeping up with PeteyBaby since he's calmed it down so much.

Jump On that U God this minute Shammy tis 48mins of eargasm

Present company excepted.

;)

Am gonna assume anybody who posts a recommendation in here who I know has good taste (that'd be all who've posted so far handily) hasn't suddenly experienced a major quality control issue and check out the recommends.

Just tried searching my music library and it appears I only have two albums (three if you count an unofficial live release of one of 'em) labelled as 2013. Not that that means much as I probably haven't labelled stuff properly anyway. But the ones wot I haz would be...

... and...

I think I have actually listened to both all the way through at once... but may well think wrongly. Certainly don't know them as I would when I was more inclined to sitting and listening to an album for the sake of just listening to it. I'm sure this is how the whole "getting old" and "bloody kids today don't know what music is with all that thump-thump noise" thing must start :sus:

EDIT: Seems PooToob Playlist linkies don't play lists when linkied via the medium of embedded linkying so... BoC - Tomorrow's Harvest (for the sake of completeness and perfectly justifiable try before you buy action).

Witty unpredictable FLY SHIT

WITTY UNPREDICTABLE TALENT AND NATURAL GAME

WISDOM UNLOCKS TAUGHT AMBITIONS NURTURING GODS

U - GAINING ONE'S DEFINITION

C.R.I.M.E = CRIMINALS ROBBIN INNOCENT MOTHAFUCKAS EVERYTIME

R.A.P G.A.M.E = RHYMERS AGAINST PHONY GANGTERS AND MAINSTREAM EVIL

Ahhhh I forgot about Tomorrow's Harvest. I can confirm that it is a good album! Liable to make you feel weird though.

Im even more open to new music as i get older, as long as its not mainstream music, most mainstream stuff is disgraceful shite

Ah cheers for that t.e.s. I'll try and find that. I liked some of their earlier tracks, though i cant say ive liked every track on any of their 2 other albums ive got.

Im sort of the same with the getting older thing, except for when mephedrone gave me a kind of 2nd youth, where i went all fanatical about new bands and live gigs all over again like i was from my teens to my 20s. I shouldnt be too hard on myself maybe because all the artists i allready know have done so much work, this year has kind of solidified starsailor and tom petty as my favourite artists, and i have spent much of my music listening trying to familairise myself with their entire back catalogue this year, the investement has paid off, my love for both artists has just grown deeper.

I'm finding as I'm getting older I seem to be less open to new music...

I worry a bit about this as it is surely a sign of imminent dodderiness. However, I think it's more that I just don't have the intense enthusiasm that I did when I was younger. I still love music and still love to hear new stuff whether it be from artists I've loved longtime or completely new to me. Music is perhaps not quite the focus it once was but haven't quite gotten to the stage where my music collection is officially sealed in aspic for all eternity. Hopefully it never will but that does seem to be all but inevitable. Actually it doesn't. What am I thinking. Plenty peeps manage to keep a functional ear open despite being all scuffed and fraying at the seams. Think I should probably get back into the habit of actually listening to albums instead of permashufflebuttoning it though. It's getting too close to having the world's longest and best Now That's What I Call Music album on repeat as it stands :!
