First car was this:

1982 Volkswagen Golf GTI (Mark 1, 1600cc, 8 valve)

Bought in 1989 when I was 19. Needless to say, for insurance purposes my mum was the "owner" and "main driver" without ever sitting in the driver's seat.

lol, sounds like your early days driving was even worse than mine. I was a total maniac/speed (as in mph) adrenalin junkie. Most of the young lads in the countryside villages i grew up in were. One lad used to do 90mph on country roads, it was terrifying watching him approach with his car barely under control.

Yep, most of us were too, back in the day. One incident I can think of involved me having a bit of a race with a local in his *mint* Escort RS2000 round the bypass. Near the end he attempted to outbrake & overtake me, only to lock his brakes, go right through the T junction across the main road, roll several times spectacularly, and come to a stop upside down in a hotel car park. Somehow he was uninjured (unlike his car), and I gave him a lift back into town. He kept punching my dashboard and swearing, but I didn't think it was right to say "hey! do you fucking mind?!" bearing in mind he'd just written off his pride and joy. =D

Aye, back in those days all the Fords were massively popular - XR2s, XR3s, Capri 2.8i and 3.0s, and let's not forget the RS1600i of course. Nobody in that crowd had a BMW at the time, they would have been well out of pocket.

Always wondered what the "Colt" in ColtDan signified!

I always thought Dan was a fine purveyor of Colt rifles and handguns.

Haha

yeah i love the old fords. parents had an XR3. rusted like a bastard. always wanted a white lowered escort RS turbo on those 8 spokes. or 7 spokes or whatever they were. infact theres a lot of cars i would of loved to have, an e30 on coilovers with some dished wheels. 200sx if i could have afforded to run it, got offered one running 300bhp for 1500 quid but could never have afforded to run it or insure it plus it was drifted. friend had a CRX Vtec for awhile, cousin had a DC2, when the vtec kicked in, fuck me what a noise, used to fly. low as and bouncy as fuck. i expect everythng ive just typed has gone over peoples heads

I understood every single word of it, hehe. :D

My second car was a 205GTI 1.9 - words can't express how much I loved that car. After making a bodge of all sorts of mechanical & bodywork jobs on the Golf, the only thing I did on the 205 was fit a front strut brace and spend about three months' wages on the stereo. Good times, hah.

Nice =D always loved them, wanted one of them as well, 205gti is iconic. friend of mine put an mi16 engine in his, used to fly. handled like a beauty. another friend had a 1.6 ended up spinning into a hedge. the rear suspension is on those splines or whatever it is, snap oversteer easily

a random vid me n a friend recorded in 07, hardly ever drove like that, but private property open space i couldnt help myself. 48k views. wasnt far off his legs at the end but he trusts me. pure induction noise, before i got it lowered and did other stuff to it

thats cool Dan, wish i could do that, you'd make a good bank robbery gettaway driver ! =D

HOW do you do that ?

you almost swiped the person who was filming !

i love screeching round tight corners, tbh thats only happened once, and im not sure how i did it.

Haha yeah somebody on the vid said "decent jock, wna be the driver 4 us wer plannin on robbin a bank"

full speed in first gear, full lock it and rip the handbrake. the handbrake turns are easy but hardly ever done a reverse 180, surprised i got it as well as that. nearly flat out in reverse pam lock the wheel as fast as possible, it all becomes a blur u get slammed across the car, fast enough bang into first and carry on going like there. woulda been easier if the car was lowered, used to body roll a lot

Me too mate.

Fuck a car, this is the way forward...

Front AND rear stunt pegs! Now we're talking!

Yep am in that same club, but man, that bmx isn't nice lol, I used to love bmxing(is that a word?) but I'd always build my own, profile ss cranx, Alex 303 rims, standard bmx frame, s&m pitchfork forks.. Ok I'll shut it now as I'm gettin into geek territory

A 57 Chevy Nomad that I knew nothing about at age 15, My stepdad gave it to me and I traded it for a Fiat because it was cool and cheap to run to the seashore, surfboards on the roof. It later had a 426 put in it that everyone was told was a 396 and we made money, my friend street racing in Newark NJ.

you make it sound easy, but i know it isnt. I tried practing handbrake turns when i was 17, in an industrial estate, i saw a police car and panicked and tried to speed away from them, of course they chased and stopped me. They thought i was trying to rob the place, i didnt know what to tell them, i didnt think saying "i was practing handbrake turns" would go down very well. :\

wouldnt of gone down well but better than being a suspect of robbing the place lol. theyre easy to do with enough speed and decent handbrake. doing them with a shit handbrake is hard. tried it in a few other cars which barley locked the wheels, hardly able to do em. reverse 180s can still be done easily with enough speed and fast enough steering

White VW polo van-ex brickies-12 years old when I got it. With go faster red stripes up one side from scraping up the side of a a parked double decker in Battersea (before I passed test on my own eek). Alpine speakers wired up that cost probably more than van.

Loved that vehicle, twas immaculate at all times-duvet and pillows/wet wipes/change of clothes and heaps of make up and hair stuff in the back...a bit pissed now and reminiscing about mispent youth (and cursing bastard stealth postman...all my evenings fun sat in a provincial post office back room)

Grrrr. Ex blew it up by driving 300 miles with no oil in it. R.I.P Snowball.

Names for cars-is that a girl thing? I had Snowball,Lapis, Love Sex Intelligence, Scarlett, BB aka the Black bitch, Teeeteee (A.K.A-Topless tart), and the current one is unamed-must be growing up?

1972 brown Ford Escort I bought in 1982 for £100. More rust than car, lift the front mats and watch the road rushing past. I had to pump the brakes to stop, or use the handbrake. We bought MOTs off a bloke in the pub.

Ah man id love to have a fast bike, rocket on wheels. i always pull in for them n love watching them fly past me. some of em ride like knobends though

I've had a few, the last was a fully de restricted ZZR1100 D, it would top 175MPH and you could smoke the rear tyre from a standstill up to about 60MPH, the acceleration is in Ferrarri territory, even short shifting you'd be doing 150MPH without even noticing.

All that said I get more put of riding my Lambretta, it's a one off totally built by me I've had it about 10 years but I did a total rebuild at the beginning of the year and then a full bottom end engine rebuild as I managed to destroy the crank. Taking a scooter designed in the 1950s and tuning it to make about twice the power it had originally and is like no other on the road makes riding it more exiting for me.

I've got it geared down but it will still do 70MPH and howls like an old motocrosser, when I rebuilt the engine earlier in the year I fitted uprated main bearings and crank ready for a more heavily tuned top end, I'm going for 20+BHP and about 85MPH so will be fitting a front disc brake as well.

Big jap bikes are a great rush and fast beyond almost any car but in the end they have no soul, I'd still get another though but given the mess I've made of my leg Mrs A would go fekin postal !
