What was this drug from the late seventies?

In the late seventies there was a drug that was very popular in the small town where I lived. It came in a crystalized form similar to cocaine and people called it "tea" ("T"?) Sometimes it had a pinkish tint and was called strawberry tea (T?). I also heard some people refer to it as "match head." I moved away in 1978 and when I came back in early 1980 the drug seemed to have disappeared. I lost touch with the crowd that used to do it, but I have always wondered what exactly was that stuff? Someone I asked about it recently said the T probably stood for THC, but I don't think so. Another person said it was angel dust? I only saw people snort it like cocaine, but it definately was something different. I have tried searching on the internet but can't find any drug that was called match head. Anyway, has anyone else ever heard of it? I would like to know what it was and why it was only around for that short period of time. Thanks for any info.
 
It reminds me of angel dust a little. I never felt so back asswards as on angel dust and I didn't even intent to try it. I thought we were doing coke.

What region are you from? Generally we don't allow "what was this / substance I.D." threads, but personally, I don't have a problem if the discussion is about an old drug used a while ago, one that you are not currently about to use.
The reason we don't allow substance ID threads is because there is no way for anyone to be able to know what it is you have without properly testing it. If someone tells you it is XYZ and it is really ZYX, so you took the amount one would normally take to get high on XYZ, which may be a huge dose of ZYX it can cause problems and/or be fatal, therefore isn't harm reduction. Sorry to sidetrack for a minute, but I just wanted to explain that.

It was in Georgia. I moved to Louisiana during that time period and no one knew what is was there. I've just always been curious as to what it was. Thanks/
 
I've had some people talk about smoking" crystal-t". One gut said it was synthetic THC but I don't belive that. They used it in the 70's and 80's. I just figured it was pcp. I never did it or saw it but would have tryied it.
 
It didn't make you feel like you were on speed. I just remember it gave you a bit of a rush when you first did it and then you just felt really happy for a few hours. :D

I always thought it couldn't be THC, because that's what is in pot and I never could smoke pot. It made me have bad panic attacks. It did come in rocks if you bought a lot of it. I remember seeing people chopping it up.

How did you do it? If you're snorting it then that pretty well eliminates THC which I doubt it was anyway. If it didn't feel like speed then is there a substance that you could compare it to?

I see some people are talking about flavored shit and I thought I'd point out that the OP was only referring to color not flavor. I have seen cocaine that had different tints to it like pink and yellow. As far as the "matchhead" thing goes, I have personally heard people talking about really good cocaine saying "You only need a match head bump..."
 
sounds like meth to me....iirc meth with a pinkish tint is quite potent....i could be completely wrong but thats what it sounds like to me.
