Substance: Wellbutrin SR
Dose: 900mg
Experience Level: None

I really need some advice and am very concerned as I'm the only one available for my friend at this moment. I'll just call him Tony but a little background that is pertinent to what I have to say. I personally have been on Wellbutrin SR 200 twice daily for a couple months now, adding up to 400mg a day. I made a big mistake awhile back when I first started my Wellbutrin Regimen, and took way more than my dose said. Why? I still ask myself that to this day. I had a breakdown of the worst depression I have ever felt I guess...Thank God all I had was a Grand Mal Seizure and didn't die...Embarrassed. I put a post about it in Trip Reports. Okay, that being said, I'm good now and life is good. Back to my friend Tony. He spent the night last night and when I woke up to take my morning dose of Wellbutrin, I was missing 5 pills (900mg). Huh??

Tony has always been trustworthy and yes, he does have a history of cocaine abuse. Long story short, he went through my cabinet while I was asleep, found the pills, took out his laptop and found out that if you "Snort" Wellbutrin, it's like coke. So in his mind, the more the better right? Wrong! It's been 4 hours and he just started feeling effects. Here's the problem...it doesn't feel like cocaine at all he told me. He's hallucinating like a crazy person (talking to himself and drinking soda out of a closed can) and very Euphoric. Now he's slightly concerned but enjoying the Psychoactive Hallucinations and whatever else he's feeling to care. I don't want to get angry because that much Wellbutrin can make one very paranoid/panicked (I think). What should I do? Keep an eye on him and hydrate him as much as possible? Do I hold off on calling 911 unless he tells me he feels something hurts or his heart is beating 1,000 beats a minute? He has no history of seizures. I know this is a lot of information but I don't want to lose a friend...Thank you in advance brothers. 8(:?

That is a lot of Wellbutrin for someone who has not taken it before, especially if he snorted it. I would watch him very closely and be prepared to call 911. Honestly I might just take him to the ER now, better safe than sorry right? I have no idea what the fatal levels are for snorting bupropion.

Bupropion (Wellbutrin) overdose:
The most common symptoms include sinus tachycardia, hypertension, drowsiness, lethargy, agitation, nausea and vomiting, and in particular delirium and seizures. Less commonly additional symptoms include auditory and visual hallucinations, coma, and ECG changes such as conduction disturbance or arrhythmia.

Seizures are commonly observed with the seizure rate increasing tenfold with doses of 600 mg daily. One overdose study suggested a dose-dependent relationship with seizures; nearly all patients ingesting more than 9 g had a seizure.

There is no specific antidote for bupropion; treatment is supportive, and focuses on maintaining airway patency and controlling seizures with high dose intravenous benzodiazepines or barbiturates if seizures are refractory to benzodiazepines.Toxic effects may be delayed in onset, with seizures developing as late as 32 hours. Subsequently patients should undergo electroencephalographic monitoring for 48 hours.

Fatalities are typically associated with large overdosage and related to metabolic acidosis and hypoxia as complications of status epilepticus with associated cardiorespiratory arrest.

Considering he's talking to himself and basically losing his mind.
I'd bring him to the hospital at least, if anything gets worst don't hesitate to call 911.

Trust me

Sounds very risky. messing with pysch meds is bad. I would take him to the ER aswell. Don't be the one who has to explain to his family in case something horrible does happen.

That sounds pretty sketchy. You could call poisin control its not like its illegal drugs so there really is no legal reason to not seek medical advice.

if you snort it hits right away and makes you really jittery. i'm surprised he was able to snort that many pills without seizing and handling the excruciating pain of snorting all the wax.... i snorted 1/4 of a pill once and THAT was too much to handle. but yeah, hospital is a good idea
