What to look for after IM-ing Dilaudid solution?

Hello all-

I have a question, and before everyone jumps on me-- yes, I know IM-ing is a BAD idea. Unfortunately I was new to injecting and I was fortunate enough to receive two bottles of medical dilaudid solution, 10mg/ml. I was fortunate enough to receive it from a pharmacist "friend" along with 21-22g needles, alcohol wipes, and the works. (even a sharps container!) She told me it was safe to inject intra-muscularly so I started out with a small amount in my left shoulder, about the area you would get a tetanus booster. Took a bit of time to come up, but it definitely felt pretty nice, so I loaded more into the syringe and tried 2 cc's after prepping the area, and this time I tossed the needle. (Pharm-friend wanted me to use a new needle for every injection but there was no way said person had supplied me with enough (plus a few extra I wanted to "play around" with) so I figure two shots was about safe. Anyway, time went by and I rotated injection sites to try to keep it from getting tender and even read (on a different site) the middle-third of the leg was a decent place for an IM shot, so I used that as part of my rotation. Anyway, went through the first bottle relatively quick and after reading here the danger of IM shots, I'm asking what exactly I should be looking for/what I can do to minimize the risk of complications, after the fact. Remember, I never shared needles, used clean ones every other-ish shot, swabbed the area and even the tip of the bottle before loading up the syringe, and didn't inject more cc's than was ever recommended (by the sites I got the info from).

So basically, what should I watch for as a result of the IM injections?

The second bottle I asked said person for insulin syringes and have been IV-ing the stuff. Much more effective and quicker onset. Still trying to practice the best hygiene I can, washing hands, alcohol swabs, making sure i'm in the vein before pushing, rotating sites, etc etc. My second question is this- the person was able to get me some Dilaudid oral pills, 4mg and from what I've read, they're next to useless when ingested orally based on expected absorption. Tried sniffing a few, with mixed results. From what I read here, and other places, Dilaudid seems to be one of the safer pills to inject, although I realize it's never 1005 the best idea. I was also able to get micron filters from said person. I have I decent amount of 4mg pills to play around with/experiment.

Are the dilaudid pills safe (relatively) to shoot, practicing proper hygiene? Any tips to minimize damage.maximize results?

I know this was long, so thank you to all who read ;)

Hey spin i dont think you will have any problems with the dilaudid you IM'd because that was a medical solution safe for it i believe. It is however a very bad idea to IM pills or anything else that isnt from a pharmacy and is made for it for that matter. If you know how to properly use your micron filters then it is not too bad for you to IV those dilaudid pills. You are doing everything as safe as possible it seems. I just hope you know the devistating addiction this can be.

CptLude-Same person who provided me with the solution, which in this case I realize won't help you. Depending on where you are, there MAY be places where you can get materials to shoot as safely as possible (clean syringes, alcohol pads).

DrugOmen-- You're right. I wasn't new to opiates, in fact, I've been wrestling with addiction (I'm not sure if that's the right word because I haven't been trying THAT hard to quit) but I've been up and down, on and off, onto Bupe and once my DoC shows up, off the bupe, rinse and repeat. I guess it's typical opiate pill addiction, I climbed the ladder that started with percs and ascended all the way to OCs. As far as shooting, said person was able to "obtain" a few bottles of pharmaceutical grade stuff and once they offered, I honestly wasn't about to turn it down. Actually she (don't think giving up her gender will mean much at this point) steadily provided me with various pills over a period of time (I know, enabling much?). Fortunately, I had enough sense to ask for all the support meds I could think of when I comes to quitting for good. As far as shooting the pills, everything I've read tells me thanks to Dilaudid's low oral BA, they're basically useless unless injected.

Getting off topic for a sec, I heard, and though I'm not positive about the veracity of the source, I have reason to believe that after getting caught and being fired from her part time job, she may have issues with the licensing board now, which I thought she dodged initially. So I suppose we both have tough battles ahead, though this hasn't prevented me from pursuing my dreams as I'm still a student...she might need to seek not just a new job, but a new profession. Physically I'm usually fine tapering, it's the mental aspects that seem at times to be torture. I intend to use the boards as a resource, in case you were wondering :)

Thank you for the info,

I know there are discussions already that go over this, but my question is sorta specific... when shooting a solution from dilaudid pills, do you heat before filtering or don't heat? And if you heat, do you heat until you get little bubbles? So to quickly go through the process, clean spoon with soap and water, then wipe with alcohol pad. Then crush up pills and add them to spoon. Take water (filtered from the tap is the best i have, don't have bacteriostatic) and mix it around to get a solution, then flash heat, screw on micro filter, suck it up and then screw the proper needle size on the syringe, make sure you have good flow, insert, pull back to check, and shoot (with a pause in the middle to let it flow correctly). Remove and apply pressure.... this sound right to you guys out there?

Don't need to heat it at all. Hydromorphone is pretty soluble on its own. Heating it will just dissolve fillers and binders, making your filters less effective. No heat required...
